Boat Quik Cleanup

Post by bayscotter »

I'm sure it's been discussed before, but what cleaners or techniques are used at the end of the day to quikly cleanup boats before you go home and finish the rest?

I use the standard lake water when I dunk it in the next time I go fishing - hopefully once or twice a year i actually wipe it down and clean it - with a cleaner

quick spray and wipe with any thing like bow to stearn, bass boat saver, bob's purple stuff etc.
keeps the slim off and stops the yellow stains on a white hull and protects the fininsh

I've been using One Step Detailer from Boatdacious for the last year or so. Best stuff I've found so far. No scum line even when punching! Once every third or so trip keeps the boat clean, slick & shiny.

Keeping some carnauba wax built up while she is at home makes for an easy wipe down at the lake with just water. I'll do 5' sections at a time with one wet cloth and one dry cloth. Stubborn hard water usually calls for Hot Sauce (http://boatbling.net/products.php). No matter what I use micro fiber cloths that have been washed at least once (new ones don't absorb as good).

I mix distilled water (half a spray bottle) with a couple of shots of white vinegar and some Bobs Boat Wipe or The Purple Stuff, for water spots on the cowling, and lightly spray down the hull and finish with the purple stuff. Use different towells for the motor, hull and scum lines to avoid scratches.
the best way to catch a big one is don't lose um sharp hooks set drag retie!

Cheapest I have found is half distilled white vinegar and half distilled water in a spray bottle for water spots and it is also safe to use on electronics screens. For a wax type product try this spray on pink stuff called Mark V Showroom Finish. I get it by the gallon and it works great and it is a lot cheaper than the other boat specific cleaner / waxes I have found. If you really want to save some $ buy it in the 5 gal container with the pour spout. I believe they are in Riverside county on the west end. My captain buys this for us to maintain the engine and It works well.
