Hey guys im gonna switch from staright braid on everything after the fish catching clinic my buddy put down on me last time we went out . What brands and strengths do you all recomend without breaking the bank
Bass Pro Shops fluoro has the best bang for your buck.
The fluoro tests on TackleTour showed it performs up with the best, most expensive Japanese brands, and outperforms a lot of other brands.
KVD uses it.
And it is a little more forgiving than the higher priced lines.
Check out their pricing.
The Berkeley & Stren 100% Fluoro is excellent stuff too. It's inexpensive and not only can be found in most local bass tackle shops, ya can git it at WalMart too! When fishing with clients here, the 15-25 pound tests is the only brand I grab when filling up a clients reel while on the water. I use it with full confidence day in and day out myself. I'll say it again like I say in almost every fluoro post like this, just look at yer BASS or FLW magazines and the Touring Pro results, the vast majority of these guys out there fishing for the big bucks, use the Berkeley 100% Fluoro.
The only time we can use 15 to 20 lb in SoCal is at night! Shouldn't have any problems with any brand using heavy line to catch LMB. The problems become an issue using 5lb to 8lb FC line, then you need to select a premium FC line and tie good knots.
Buy what you can afford, it the only thing between you and the fish.

Bass Pro Shops can change suppliers at any time. Berkley and Stren do not extrude FC line, they also buy it to there QA requirements.
I would stay with the name brands because their reputations are on the line, they sell in higher quantities with less chance to have old stock on the self.
The touring pros change line after every event, they can't chance worn line to fail.
Weekend anglers rarely change line after each outing, the line gets stretched and worn and that leads to trouble regardless of the brand.
Use a good line conditioner with FC line; TangleFree or KVD both work good.
Thanks for the input guys berkley 100% floro in 15lb test for cranking with my curado 201 e7 and a skeet reese cranking stick. Trying to post pic of nice fish but can't for some reason.
How often do you change your floro?
Number of trips out fishing? or Time on the spool?
I fish at least once a week sometimes twice. Always seem to get some type of knick in line that breaks at bad times. or sends nice lures across the lake. Not at the knot but from the spool. Check my rods, checked my reels, installed clockwise, installed counter clockwise. Spray it with KDV line condition as I spool it and during the day I use it. It got so bad my partner at the time would always ask about my line on the way to the lake, it was a running joke between us.
I have had nothing but bad luck with it. Have swore it off and if need will use a leader or mono. Have gotten it off the shelve open the box and it is old. Have tried every single brand. Except BPS. Put new out of box, throw it the next day, make two or three cast. Wham, lure with trailer of line across lake. There is a shelve life not sure how long was told 1 year to 18 months depending on atmosphere of store and storage. Will not by any line now that has dust on the top of the box while on the shelve.
This topic seems to get covered every few weeks. The moderator should make it a sticky thread. See if you can find the last few threads on this topic. They were fairly informative.

I have had the same results. get a back lash and the next cast the line breaks 10 or 20 yard down from the lures sending out a tail.
I think that cabon is so brittle that when it gets folded in half it cracks and fails.
Been catching line sensitive fish for 15 year with green maxima mono.
everything from Steelhead in the ULTRA CLEAR Smith river on 12-10 pound max to black bass in 0-80 feet in the clearest water resivours. 20 feet visability.
So why change?
The Smith River steelhead are the most spooky fish ever! standing there looking at one in the clear river. make a move with my hand to adjust my sunglasses and the fish takes off like a bat out of hell.
I tried to see the benifit of floral for more than 10 years. I have yet to see what the big deal about it is.
I hear good things about yozuri. A mono coated with floral. I think of trying that but still I ask WHY? I already know what works for me.
One of the things that impressed me the most about BPS fluoro, other than it's price (I'm cheap) is how forgiving it is.
Buried loops are a death knell for fluoro, as the constant slapping and abrasion of the loop against the reel makes a weak spot immediately. And having a loop buried on the reel usually kinked the line, and made a weak spot that would break more easily.
I used to use Sunline, and loved it, but it was "fragile" in that way.
BPS is more forgiving.
I do pick out backlashes when they happen, but sometimes I miss a loop that's buried deep. As long as it doesn't get exposed during a cast, it doesn't seem to weaken.
I typically spool up two casts of new BPS fluoro only, tieing it to the older line still on the spool, and only have to respool as I retie enough to use up too much line for a good, long cast.
I fish 8lb and up on baitcasters.
One thing I've found helps with fluoro is to prestretch it by tieing it off to a tree, and letting out the two casts worth, and then putting an almost breaking stretch on it for five seconds. That removes any memory, and I can check for funny spots as I reel it back in between my fingers.
With BPS, when I find a funny feeling spot, I stop and hand test that section. 95% of the time I pull on it, and it becomes smooth again, no problem. If it breaks, better there than at the boat with a fish on.
I'm not sponsored by BPS, unfortunately, but their fluoro works.
There are a lot of good floros on the market. I would check out the report on tackle tour. In my opinion (cause that's what it is), Seaguar, Sunline, Torray are the best three on the market. Many of these lines are make from the same place. I have tried other brands but I keep going back to Seaguar.
