I need to get away

Post by John Barron »

I need a few days of just fishing, no tournaments, fishing or running them. I just want to get away maybe somewhere I haven't fished before. I have fished most of the Central Valley lakes, all of the Central coast lakes most of the lakes in Nor Cal lakes. How about some suggestions.

I know you've fished it a ton, but Cachuma is the fullest it's ever been, and it's beautiful.
There's a lot of lake to fish, and every type of bite right now.

The air temps at Havasu look like they will remain 10 degrees below normal for a few more days. I went there last week to get away from it all and the fishing was solid. There aren't many people on the lake during the week.

John, the weather is supposed to continue to be dicey up north through the weekend.
But you might want to try Bullards Bar, Collins Lake Or Pardee if you want to have some good fishing at a smaller impoundment up north.

John,

Are you looking for a humble weekend getaway or a road trip - I fished Hells Gorge in Idaho off the Snake River for Smallies and it was EPIC smallmouths. Sounds to me like you need to get on a 2 or 3 day tuna boat, drink some beers, no tournaments, no bumpin into a tournament angler to talk about tournaments just the salty air, beer, and bloddy decks - sounds good to me

Another thought, and this is someplace I have always wanted to go to is Lake Powell - serene calm and pretty nice weather still. Hope you find the peace you are looking for.

Hey Kevin:
I thought about Alamo and Roosevelt but I don't want to drive ten hours. I would go to Clear Lake and I still might but 3 or 4 days is not much for that kind of driving.

100+ fish a day for the linesiders still on the delta..... and there tummies are packed full of Salmon smolts.

-- And this late in the Spring.

If I was a betting man ~ I would forsee the CA DFG making changes soon for personal take limits to help save the salmon run- while the pumps keep pumping for the southern delta.

Hello John

We have a trip out of Fisherman's Landing departing Friday June 10 to San Clemente Island. Purpose is to go after big calicos, yellows, halibut and white sea bass. We depart around 9pm and start fishing as soon as we get to the island, fish all Saturday until dark and head back to San Diego docking around 5am Sunday morning.

If you're interested give me a call 619 466 8355

Bullards Bar? Amador? Lots of water up here this year, so lots of options in play just a day's drive away!

I agree with Kevin only on Santa Ana River Lakes. After you launch, just try to find the nothing banks and throw frogs all day. If you don't believe us, just check with the guys at Anglers. Trust us!

Easy....Naci! You have family in the area right? 50% chance of rain all weekend will keep the pleasure boaters away, fishing is great! Yes, I know you have fished it plenty...But it is FULL . Just remember your rain gear.

Hey Brian, hope all is well bud. You're right, I have fished Naci more times than I could count and do I have family there, that's where my wife and I are from. I know my granddaughter would love to go fishing again at Naci but it's early in the year yet. I just want to go somewhere I have never fished before and get some sleep.

An "old" friend of mine (that still owes me 20 buck from a bet he lost many years ago at a barn dance at the fairgrounds) suggested Bullards Bar. I may just take him up on that suggestion. My biggest problem is, like he said, once I get back up north I might not come back here.

Now all I need is where to stay where I can plug my boat in at night. Suggestions please.

Yeah, a not-quite-so-old friend also suggested that a few posts up sir!

I know the guys had a good time there earlier in the year, and I've got it on my short list to visit sometime soon.

If you do come, PLEASE bring some good weather with you???
