Cell Phone Help

Post by Ron Hunnewell »

Hey Guys,

I need some help with which new cell phone to get for the Clear Lake area. I have Verizon and it works great in the Clear Lake area. Problem is I pay 45.00 a month for it and the only time I use it is when I travel to Clear Lake, most of the time it just sits on the desk at home. I have a Nextel phone for work I have to carry all the time, but it does not work in the Clear Lake area. I have thought about a new phone that you just pay for minutes up front, but dont know if they will work up at C.L. any help would be appreaciated.

Thanks,
Ron

Ron,

try virginmobile.com, give them a call, about $90 bucks for a quality phone and buy as you go minutes. see if clear lake is in their coverage area. RR (purchased @ wallyworld)

I had the same issue last year when I travelled up here to Clear Lake... I got a US Cellular phone for 39.99 and that gave me about 300 minutes peak time and free weekends and nights.

The other option out of Lakeport is Edge Wireless... Try EdgeWireless.com for details. It works great and is a pay in advanced system.

Personally, I have Sprint and I have to roam up here at all times. Once I got sprint to put unlimited roaming on my phone I saved some cash, but the coverage is still very crappy (as many who try to call me can attest).

Long Story Short.. Try US Cellular or EdgeWireless and you will be happy!

Since you already have Nextel, check this out. Go to
shakespeare-marine.com and look at the CA-NEX dual band cellular amplifier. Since it's for your work phone, maybe they will even pay for it. Good luck!

Verizon also has a pre-paid plans. With this you should be able to just switch your current phone over to a pay as you go plan and still enjoy the great Verizon coverage on Clearlake. Some of the smaller carriers have very limited or no service at Clearlake.

Ron, Dewayne and Verizon do have a good network can't beat that. Nextel has been trying to get coverage at Clear Lake for the last 2 years. We're starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We're now clearing some of the hurdles and hope to have coverage this year now. We should also have coverage at Lake Shasta as well this year. We've completed the big hole from Redding to the Oregon border. As part of that project we have coverage planned for the lake too!

More to come from your local Nextelian...now Sprint/Nextel.

GO TO TRAC PHONE.COM AND YOU CAN FIND OUT IF IT WORKS AT CLEAR LAKE. IF YOU DONT USE IT MUCH THATS THE ONLY WAY TO GO.COST IS ABOUT 100 DOLLORS A YEAR WITH 400 MINUTES AND THAT INCLUDES A PHONE. I HAVE ONE AND IT WORKS GREAT WHERE EVER I GO.

I changed my entire company over to Verizon from nextel. went with the push to talk plan and could not be happier, the cost is less, no more droped calls, and alot better customer service.
