US Open

Post by elfish16 »

Its kind of interesting to me that there isn't a BIG long thread about the US Open on here. 17 posts on whether the WONBASS site is working right or not, but nothing really talking about the fishing or anglers.

No interest this year after Hart incident or what? Shoot, I am quite excited to see the great caliber of guys at the top end! A Mart in first, shooting for his 3rd win and Gary Klein right behind him in 4th.

Pretty exciting...let alone the youngsters in the mix for the AAA. Pretty cool stuff!

Just a bit shocked to see no real interest on here.

by the way, I am following the blog on Wonbass, and its nice. Enjoying it when the updates are given.

:D

I think there is still some resentment, because the Open wasn't moved to Clear Lake. Just my opinion.

The US Open is and should always be at Mead....in Sept not July, they got lucky this year with cool weather, light wind and high water.
The Won site is covering this tournament with good ontime updates and stories, what more do you want? Eric you should be fishing the Open and showing the young Texan how it's done!
Aaron who? got to cheer on that 13 year old!

Tom,

if i didn't have some MAJOR financial things come up this year, totalled truck and other things i'd be there. I am going to see what I can do next year. it would be a helluva time for sure! One thing I'd need is a boat, thats my biggest concern.

Much rather put my fate in my own hands you know?!?!

been fishing at all Tom?

We are breaking all pervious records for traffic on the WONBASS.com website and the WONews.com blog site. We had over 10,000 visits alone on WONBASS.com and today is running way ahead of that at the same time of day. So we are blowing last year and every other year away on traffic.

Be more than happy to show the Google Analytics reports to anyone, as we are extreemly proud of this years US OPEN and the stories coming out of it and the mood at the event is fantastic from everything I have seen and heard.

like i said, I am not worried about Wonbass posting on here or any other websites. I am merely talking about people. No buzz on here...just different from the years past.

Just stating what i am seeing on here...no harm in that!

I wonder about it too.

We all see the crazy huge post and view numbers when threads do get going on the big events, even Pro Ams. I think we all get tired of reading 200 team tournament reports, and 2 page press releases, but to me if you don't celebrate and promote the big events you're really just not a part of the bass fishing industry.

The US Open at Mead draws big name pros and gives local pros and AAA's a chance to compete at the top level. There should be a lot of interest, it just isn't evident on the bass fishing forums? The event is running smoothly, no controversy.
Dave Peltier currently 5th has a chance at a repeat win; won as a AAA and could pull off a win as a pro.
Tomorrow we will know who won, it should be interesting...

I agree leave it at Mead but move it to September. This year was a problem for me no time but I should be there next year. I'm already looking forward to it.

Hey Tom, I can't find where Peltier won the Open as an AAA. What year was that? I do know that the guy leading the AAA right now, (should he hold on for the Win), would be the 5th person from the Southern Utah Bass Anglers, to Win from the Back of the boat.

That is an interesting bit of trivia that deserves some follow-up. Do you know the names of the other Utah AAA winners ?

Is there a contact number or email address for this club ? You can send it to bobt@wonews.com

I believe it was back in 1999, could be wrong...agian.
Sounds like the weather warmed up and getting hot over 112 today, so much for good weather.

I hope he wins this year. He is long overdue.

DAVID PELTIER, Sponsored by Robo Worms, J&T Tackle, Stanton Marine. Won the Lake Mead Invitational Feb. 1999 and AAA division at the 1996 U.S. Open; qualified for 1999 Western Classic.

If I am not mistaken, the reason the Open is in its current date slot is for the field to get some of the big name pro's to fish that are here for the ICAST show. The best fishing at Mead is in mid-late June as the weather is still single digits and the fish are still very shallow. The Open is the Open and will always be at Mead. The casino's, nightlife, heat, and the brutal conditions are all part of the equasion. Your issue with moving it to Clear Lake is the California 6 hour tournament rule also, which would take away from the endurance formula needed to the a winner. Would love to see a live weigh in like FLW though. But better yet, is just fish the thing as its a great event. Rick G.

Rick:
The problem with it being the week after ICAST is the guy that have to be there becasue of sponsor commitment don't get to practice the week before (I actually heard this from several guys that had to work the ICAST show) If they moved it to the week before ICAST or September would be good.

The Pros that want to fish the WON BASS US Open will make the time to pre-fish for this event. The Sponsor's will work with them.

On Sponsor's Row this year, we had Gary Kline in our booth helping out. Gary worked out a deal with his sponsor to pre-fish before ICAST, work one day at ICAST and than go back to pre-fishing Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

If there is a will, there is a way. It isn't like the pros and sponsors hear about the US Open a week before the tournament. Plan ahead and fish. Also why ICAST sponsors that are nationally known, don't attend the Sponsor's Row is perplexing. A sponsor get to personally have either himself or his A-list pro or both of them for that matter, put product and information directly into the hands of 250 eager customers.

Peltier does not have an Open win to his credit. The event you are referring to is a regular season pro-am event.

John Murray won the Open in 1999.

It would be nice to see some new blood on the stage, so I too hope Dave wins.

Drew, I was just going by the Stats and Records on the Won Bass Page. They might have to update that page, because I didn't see his name.

Tbob, as you know, Tyler's lead didn't hold up, Congrats to Ryan. We really enjoyed the Whole weigh in today, seen alot of people that we hadn't seen in quite a while. Very nice job by the whole Staff.

1996 shows Walter Apple as the AAA Champion. According to the Won Bass Stats. Either way, Congrats to David for his 2nd place finish at this year's Open.
