Casitas Friday 8/28/09

Post by SoCalBassAssassin »

Decided to solo it out on Casitas Friday. Got on the water around 6:00 AM the water temp was 75, and it was already about 70 something degrees out with some overcast. I expected a fast an furious morning because the last 2 times I fished there I did very well before the afternoon heat. The bit was slow first thing in the morning. I was throwing cranks, and small swimbaits on the points. Around 9:30 the bite started to pick up a bit on my cranks. I was using a Tennessee Fat Free shad pattern diving around 10 - 12 feet. Picked up a few 2.5 - 3 pounders on the west side of the lake, but the bite was nothing like it was last weekend. I fished until around 12 Pm when the sun started blazing, and I had cooked enough. I still ended up with 5 nice fish between 2 & 3.5 pounds so it was okay out there for me. I wanted to talk to a few of the other anglers before I left, but by 12:30 when I pulled into the docks I was the only one there, and everyone else had left. I saw a lot of boats moving a lot so I am guessing they weren't catching much. I pretty much stayed in the same area to catch all my fish. The fish seemed to be suspended about 10 - 15 feet down in 20 - 25 feet of water. It is nice to see the reaction bite picking up a bit, but Casitas still isn't fishing like it was this time last year. But all in all I had a nice morning on the water.

If you're planning on trying the lake be prepared to be very thorough in the areas you fish, and bring lots of fluids to drink. It's like a oven out there once the sun is up..

I got to hit it up this week, myself, so what it a lot of folks on the water right now? I have not been up in a bit, and got to blow out the dust of my boat I keep up there, if the bite is good lake last year at this time it should be good early in the morning and late afternoon with shad being busted in the coves. so over the next month I do hope to hit it up a bit too!
