Castaic

Post by DAKINE198 »

I was out on Castaic Sat and Sun. I only caught
4 keepers (sqeakers) on Sat and yesterday my best 5
was probably only 6.5 total. I saw plenty of busting schooling
stripers. Can any one offer any help on how or
where to find bigger fish?

I'd like to help you Steve but I cant catch fish on that lake in september, october, and november. Once the fish are exclusively on that shad pattern, i am done. Though not for a lack of effort. You have to match the hatch exclusively and be in the right cove when the fish go off. Tailspins, underspins, dart heads, tiny flukes and spoons are your best bet as well as the lightest line you are comfortable throwing..

Come on Steve, the bite this time of the year is just stupid. I was there on Friday and had about 15lbs. Easy fishing I think.

true that Edgar should know this bite.
Jeff is like I am in the fact that it has taken us a long while to figure out this bite and whatever each person catches them on they keep it hush for themselves.
There is 3 or 4 people who know what I do and they keep it real quiet.

HAHAHA Lance your funny! Man I know you have one of the right baits but maybe dont have the confidence in it yet. Steve, I bet you have the baits somewhere in your boat but just haven't figure out when and how to get the fish to eat them. Maybe start off with the simple stuff every one knows about then tinker to find something that only you will have.

Ray is right, we all have our own baits that work for us and have to keep them on the down low.

Just so you know some of the baits I have for this bite I now pour for myself and partner. You won't find them in stores.

Ok my 2 cents as Lance said I its a tuff lake I think because of tourney pressure, and fish movement I did score in the Bass Fed last year and after being a back seater and locating fish on a good bite, and for the last couple years there, the only thing I can say is the lake has thousands of good fish to catch because if you do a search and find out who keeps getting paid all the time on that lake, you will see that they score no matter what time of year, and from what I have learned from the good pros I have fished with is that no matter what, Location, Location, Location is what all the top guys use, find the sweet spot and catch your limit quick because when the bite dies down and the fish move and they always move, I have been doing my homework on the lake thanks to Ray....and the other guys who always seem to get there limits......lol
