Motorguide Trolling Motors Help

Hey I was just wondering if anyone had purchased a Motorguide Pro Series 70lb thrust trolling motor from Bass Pro Shops in Manteca? I purchased one New in April 2011 and my boat sat in the shop for almost 3 months so I got like a month and a half of use on this trolling motor.

Anyway we were fishing yesterday on the Delta and I was fishing the outside weed line I nail a fish I fight him swing him in the boat my son gets the scale it goes 4 1/4 lbs the boat is blowing into the weeds so I go to get on the trolling motor and the pedel is limp and the motor wont turn!!! I never broke a cable before, but I am assuming thats what has happen. I did not force the pedel and I did not hear anything it was fine when I hook the bass, I am baffled.

Anyway I called BPS today and they said I had to call back tommorrow that the service center is closed on Sunday and Mondays . Just wondering if I purchased a lemon or if this is just a fluke. I just dont understand how a cable can just go like that and only having minimal use on it. I guess I should have dropped the 300 bucks more and gotten the Minn Kota Maxxium

I have had the cable come off where it connects to the foot pedal it does not brake it just comes off. I have reinstalled it and tightened the tension but it still comes off from time to time. Stay with the motor guide don't go to the other brand.

Hi Dom it could have happened when the wind blew it into the weeds and rocks if the motor got twisted or bound up. If I am not mistaken your unit is a one cable unit, the cable sets in a rack which could have broken causing the same problem
If you run into a problem getting it fixed I'm still working on them

Thanks Duckman I have not pulled my pedal yet (I have it screwed to the deck) but that might be the problem and if it is I dont want it nothing worse then having to repair the pedal on the water if it is the problem and being BRAND NEW with only alittle over a month of use it should not be happening.

Hey Gene thanks for the info and offer but seriously no rocks, just the outer weeds (weed line) I am confused becuase the trolling motor did not hit anything and it wasnt full of weeds and I did not force it to turn there was no force. I was simply floating with the current (incoming tide) down this long rock wall only using the trolling motor to keep me stright on the outside weed line I was cranking parralle to the weed line. If I had hit a rock or forced the pedel I would have known it, just the wirdest thing. I have a 1 year warranty on the motor thru BPS so I am going to take it off the boat tonight and run it over there tomorrow. I am only asking to see if this is a ongoing problem with this model becuase if it is I reather just exchange it out for a better motor. the bite was getting hot and we had to put it on the trailer ealry becuase of the dang TM and that sucked .

The Ranger is Older but we have went thru the whole boat and put everything on it NEW from TM,Batteries,fish finders,onboard charger ,lights,etc.. so stuff like this would not happen guess its just my luck

The cable on my Motorguide 46lb. snapped in open water at Lake Oroville. The wait time at the local authorized repair shop was weeks, so I just bought the cable for $44.00 and replaced it myself. It took me about an hour, and the only tools I needed were a phillips-head screwdriver and needle-nose pliers. Just a little trial-and-error to get it facing straight ahead with the pedal horizontal, but other than that it was easy.
