What rod?

Post by BASSINMIKE »

Just wondering what you rod you guys use to throw horny toads? There are weeds and tules where I throw them. I have been looking at the Powell 734cf or 723 endurance. Let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
I would check out several before I purchase one and also compare the prices, there is a huge difference in price with a very small difference in quality with it comes to these heavier sticks.
Dobyns makes a great frog rod that you can purchase at C&C Marine or any other high end and reputable rod retailer.

You should also look at a custom made frog rod from Cal West Custom rods, Dennis has built a couple rods for me and they are built with the best materials you can possibly get along with being made here in the good ol US of A and they are priced in most cases cheaper then the off the shelf products.
You get a rod that is built for you based on your Physical stature and types of frogs you want to throw, they are trully an extension of your body.

Give Dennis a call at Cal West and tell him George referred you, maybe I will get a discount on the next one i order from him.
Their number is 559-683-0668.

i would go with a Dobyns 734 champion or if your looking for a nice rod a Dobyns Extreme dx745...

Many shops are still demoing Gary Dobyn's Rods.. You can always try one out before you buy it and qualify to enter into a drawing to win a Ranger Bass Boat...

If there isn't a shop that has one, Let me know!! I got a extra sitting around... I am located in SF....

Best kept secret is a Rainshadow XP904 as a custom build.

The rod I use for horny toadin' is the same rod I use for buzzin': Shimano's Cumara Reaction 7'11" Medium-Heavy Rod w/ the Extra Fast Tip. (CUCX711MH)

Powell 764 or 723 endurance would both be excellent choices. The 764 is such a versitile rod you can't go wrong.
