Yesterday morning I launched out of Russo's (low tide) and noticed what I thought was bait fish activity in Piper Slough. Upon closer inspection I saw that it was air bubbles all across the slough including several different areas on the launch ramp itself. Can someone tell me what was causing the bubbles??

Delta Question???...
Re: Delta Question???...
John, my best guess would be that the grass underneath may be dying off and the decay is releasing Co2 into the water and that is the bubbles you are seeing - maybe someone will have a better answer?

Swamp Gas or Marsh Gas
Decaying and decomposing vegetation and/or plants in the mud and water releases various gases, among them probably methane and carbon dioxide. If it is methane you will not be able to smell it and is highly combustible but since it is lighter than air will dissipate. It burns with a blue flame when ignited.

Re: Delta Question???...
CO2, H2O, NO3, SO4,CH4, NH4 and H2S are the end products of plant decomposition. CH4 is methane, and is odorless. most of it is probably CO2 ..carbon dioxide.
