Dropshot/spinning reel line favorites?
I am using my spinning reels more all the time, small tubes, worms and stuff. I like to try different brands at the same time not spending too much. Mostly want sensitivity and low memory not real heavy abrasion worries. I mostly want a line that won't jump off the reel half way thru the day, if thats possible. Any new ones out there to try this spring ? How heavy test also?
Re: Dropshot/spinning reel line favorites?
For sensitivity, I really like a pure flourocarbon (not a co-polymer). I use Vanish Transition. It doesn't have the low memory that you're asking for but there are a several things you can do to make it more manageable and worth the small inconvenience for the great sensitivity
Do not fish heavier line than is needed. I usually use 6 or 8 lb and will occasional throw 10 lb.
Stick to the larger sized reels. Minimum 2500 in a Daiwa or Shimano. Some guys even run 3500 to get the large spool diameter. I made the mistake of trying a 2000 size to save on the reel weight and amount of l line I had to spool on and now wish I had an extra 2500 or even a 3500 (you can always back a 3500 spool with some mono).
Use the Kevin Van Dam Line & Lure Conditioner. It really does work. I usually only need one application a day (granted our winter has been pretty mild so I haven't needed more). I try to put it on the night before or when I first get up in the morning so I don't have to spray it in anyones boat.
Periodically (end of the day) let out the line in the water behind the boat as you idle around (nothing on the line) to get the twist out.
When dropshitting make sure you are using swivel weights or if you are not one who minds the extra knots, use a swivel above the the hook.
Prior to the above my line was jumping of the spool like you mentioned and I was ready to give up it, but then I tried the line conditioner and made some operator changes and don't have that problem anymore.
Now, if you really want to stay away from flourcarbon try P-Line Flouroclear.
One line that did not work well for me on a spinning reel was Yozuri Hybrid, although I tried it before I was using KVD Line Conditioner.

Re: Dropshot/spinning reel line favorites? Thanks
Thanks, lots of good advice. I was going to try the Yozuri a friend said it is stiff also. Was looking at the flouroclear the other day will probably try it. Also I have gotten away from my larger spool spinning reels due to weight, but see they are putting big spools on small reels now with that as selling point. Tried some Tangle Free spray and others, no help will try Van Dams. Will make sure swivel is there also. I also need to trust the line strength and drag not go such heavy test. Thanks again, will copy down and use it.

Nothing wrong with Flouroclear, although it is a co-polymar with a flouro coating. But for full flouro try the Vanish Transistion or Seaquars new invizx. Stay with 6-8 lb and you should have very little problems. You will have to check your line occasionally and cast and reel back with some line tension to keep it down on the reel, but I think you would like one of the two mentioned. Bill K

Fun fishing the country, each and every week.

Sufix siege is an awsome mono with near zero memory. Its the only line I use on my spinning reels, try 6 or 8 lb test

I posted this under another topic as well. I like the japanese flourocarbon alot better than anything america has to offer. The reason I like it so much is one the line is bulletproof, i go as low as 4lb test when d-shotting usually 5-6 though. I like SUNLINE, and SUGUI, this flourocarbon if treated well can be used for months, I used one spool for 4 months so far...really good stuff.

i tried this and it works really well ..put 15lb braid on your reel ..tie a barrell swivel and then make up some floro lleaders. just attach to swivel.. when anything breaks its the leaders and braid casts really well ... i make up 10 or so leaders ahead of time ..put them in a plastic bag and then on the water one breaks i just tie on another.. just another idea to consider..

Do yourself a favor and use either 6 lb or 8lb. P-Line 100% flourocarbon, Don't use Invizix, or floroclear, they don't even come close to camparing to the sensitivity, and strength of P-Line flourocarbon....
Fish on...get the net....its a big girl!!

Re: Dropshot/spinning reel line favorites?
I have used P-Line Flourclear for a number of years now. It is great line and I would recomend it to anyone. The funny thing is I just spooled up a couple reels with some inexpensive Bass Pro Excel 6lb. and 8lb. line. So far two trips out and no break offs
, no line twist
, and no decline in bites
. I am going to give it a try a few more times before I make a decesion, but it looks like I might be switching line if the results stay the same.
