Lowrance help

Post by Scott Burke »

I replaced 2 X15's with gps with a 27 up front and a 37 at console. Nice upgrade for me. X15 worked great for many years and loved them. They never had great mapping but never became lost either. I use the LGC 4000 now and become lost for minute or so on most runs. The whole reason i upgraded was for the help in finding good water. But, I seem to be lost when i need the map most. Question #1 Where should I start on my trouble shooting? Question #2 What cable do I need to link the front and back graph GPS?

The new puck is located exactly where the old one was.

Thanks for your continuing help,

Scott

to link them both units together you need the red NMEA 2000 network. The best thing to do is just buy a NMEA starter kit, this should have everything yu need, make sure you power up the NMEA network by using the extra cable on your 27 or 37 (should have a three cord power cable, connect the two cables with red and whites to power) or you can just do it with the included power node in the kits (you just need one power node connected). This will allow you to use the same GPS puck for both units, just remember there will be some offset depending on were the puck is located.
How close is the puck mounted to the head unit, i have heard that there are sometimes problems with them when they are mounted really close together.

The LGC 4000 does not have the need to be mounted at least 3 feet away like the LGC 3000 and 2000 did. The issue I have seen when using the LGC 4000 with the older LCX units is that the LGC 4000 came out with the HDS units and is 5 times faster than the LGC 3000 was. This faster speed communicating with the satellites can become a problem with the older units because the processor in the LCX units can't keep up with the information provided with the 4K antenna.

If it was my setup, I would live with the lost position issue for the reliability of the LGC 4000. I don't know of one failure in two years. The new technology of the 4000 has eliminated the failure problems with the 3000 when mounted too close to head units.

There has got to be some thing i can do. Is something wrong with my 4000 or my X37 it seems like i see the blinking question mark as much as position found! Hey thanks for the help!

Sounds to me like you have a setup issue, most likely with your NMEA 2000 network. Are you using the original blue network cables with adapter cables to red? Make sure every Tee is tight and every connection from the antenna, terminators, Tees, and any NMEA 2000 extension cable, and at the unit, So often one works loose and then you get intermittent problems.

If you still have blue Tees on your network, these are not waterproof and can develop corrosion on the connections, and can fail. This is why red and black connectors were develeoped, they are waterproof.

Hope this helps.
