Difference Between LMS vs LCX

Looking at some X15's on ebay. Can someone explain the differences between an LMS vs an LCX model?

The letters before a number in any model Lowrance is just the model number of that particular unit. It does help with the sequence of the aging of past legacy units. For example the "X" series is older than either the LMS or the LCX. Don't confuse the "X" series and the "LCX" units. Any X- units are the oldest, then comes the LMS and LCX units then progress to the current HDS units.

The LMS was the prefix to the 5 inch models and the LCX units started at the 7 inch models. For example you will run across the LMS 520 and the smallest LCX was the LCX 25c. Then there was the LCX 26c HD. Then a couple years later the 25's and 26's became the 27's and 28's when the hard drive was bigger.

To explain what all those letters mean; take LCX 28c HD. The unit is an LCX model, 28 refers to the size of the screen, the small c means it is a color unit and the HD means it contains a hard drive so there is probably mapping preloaded into the unit. the 28's are 7 inch screens, the 38's are 8 inch screens and the 113's are 10 inch screens. So if you find something to buy you can tell what you may be purchasing. I explained above the 25 thru 28's. Here are the various 10 inch screen models you can find; LCX 110c, LCX111c HD, LCX 112c and LCX 113c HD.
