He's leading the points race too, with one event left.

If Chris finishes top 5 points he'll be fishing the 2012 Elites!

Thank you all for the support! I had an awesome event and the flipping pattern I was on only got better with the the conditions. That's two events down, and one more to go for a Bassmaster Elite Series invitation. Man, that sounds good! I'd like to share a quick report with my west coast buddies:

This stretch of the Arkansas River was loaded with stumps, rocks, laydowns but I decided to practice in areas that held vegetation. Not submergent, but emergent veggies. I found the fish positioned in the grass much like they are on our river this time of year, except the current was not always present, nor guaranteed. So, I payed real close attention to when the lower locks would open up and create that much needed current. Basically, I'd get bit in weed points mixed with wood as the water moved. Perpendicular wind was also good. As far as technique: Flipping seemed the most effective with the trolling motor barely turning at a constant speed. Pitching also produced but there were way too many targets to hit to be cranking my reel every cast.

Nothing different about my baits and weights as they are the same ones we use out here but there was one piece of equipment that really blew my mind. Dean over at Hi's Tackle Box hooked me up with some of that new Seaguar Kanzen Braid in 60lb test before the event. This was my first derby using that stuff and all I can say is WOW! I'm not just saying that to sell it, guys. It is extremely strong and slick, yet thinner than the rest. I used that line on 2 of my 7105 flippin sticks and didnt have one hiccup, and I only retied once while waiting in the lock on my way up! Be sure to check it out.

Anyhow, thanks again guys and good luck out there!
