Lamiglas rods breakage issues

Post by TrouserTrout »

Hey guys,

Ive got 4 lamiglas rods. really like em but ive had some problems with them this year. I have broken 2 806 Flippin sticks in the same exact spot while theyve had fish on. First one i was fishing for stripers and i hooked one and the rod snapped 4 guides down. the 2nd one i was fishing for bass and set the hook on a jig fish and my rod snaps 4 guides down again. One of the rods was barely used, the other one was BRAND new. They were never banged against anything, nothing hit the rods making them weak. they were always protected in rod socks. Im scared to fish my other 2 lamiglas rods right now because im scared theyll break too. Has anyone had any problems with these rods breaking? Ive beat on my dobyns, shimano rods way more than these and they havent broke on me.

Your best bet is to call Lamiglass and explain to them your situation! They should take care of you with no issues. Also, if they broke in the exact same spot they will want to know that so that they can see if there is a pattern to this that they may need to address. Could be a week spot in the blank, or a flaw in there mandrels that they would need to fix! Good luck and hope it works out for you. If not, let me know and I will tell you where to get your new Phenix Rods!

I called lamiglas this afternoon because I also broke a rod this weekend. I tried contacting Barbara at x221 and told her that it was recommended on a fishing forum that I contact her for my warranty issue and she said "no that's not right" She gave me a place to leave a message which I did. Message said its taking 4-6 weeks to process warranty issues. I have probably 15 certified pro rods that I use. This is the first time I have broken a rod and I really hope this doesn't turn out to be how the warranty issues are handled from a loyal customer's perspective.

i dont get the warranty. pay $60 for the warranty on the rod. $30 to ship it to them, then they charge you have it shipped back. Your basically buying another rod from them. there's no warranty. They charge us what a shop pays for them. Nice warranty. i told them to keep my 806 i sent back 5 weeks ago. they wanted too much money for it to be called a warranty. just my opinion.

Welcome to my world except with the Dobyns. Their warrenty of 65 bucks covers the return freight but honestly Im tired of spending good money after bad on MANY returns . To bad becouse I really enjoyed fishing them.

Bummer on the 806. I have several and love them...... Not to mention the fastrack warranty program only works for rods that have a manufacturing date after January 07. My local tackle shop actually stopped carrying and they told me that they were tired of dealing with their warranty issues.

ive seen on facebook one kid break three lamis all in the same place, I dont know how he fared on the warranty but I should follow up. It sucks to spend 100s of dollars and have breakage at the same place on the rods, then be told angler abuse.

If the break is there fault they will take care of you. They are the last hold out for the true warranty, they want to see the rod and inspect it in house. So if there is a problem with there workmanship they can correct it. You see they have the LUXURY of actually building the blanks there in the US. You will be taken care of. I have known them for years and have actually built my own blank there with there help. As a company they want to build the best quality rod out there but to compete with all the imports is hard. These are real people living a life here in the US and take pride in there work. And if you think the other companys out there are not covering the cost of the replacement rod with there fees you might be surprised if you knew there cost on that rod that retails for 300.00. I have alot of customers and friends that have hundreds of Lamiglass rods and have no issue. Give them chance. :D

Thanks the replies. Im sending the rods off to see what they say. Im gonna be pretty pissed if they say its my fault, i didnt beat on them at all. But its pretty weird to have 2 different rods break in the same place.

Anyone got a 8' flippin stick reccomendation that has some tip to it?

I broke a Certified Pro flippin stick this past weekend at Clear Lake.I snapped my XFT766 3 guides down setting the hook.Called Lamiglas to see about the warranty only to be told that, sorry,we don't make that rod anymore. This rod has been in there lineup for many years.I went to there website and it's true they don't offer the 766 or the 806 anymore.Guess I will look at the Dobyns or Powell to replace it.

Lamiglas has a over the counter exchange I think for the certified pro series it is $70.00. Find a dealer that honers that warranty and you don't have to deal with the factory. I'm sorry but I am not one of those dealers.

Thanks Gene,I did some checking around and it seems that nobody is offering that over the counter exchange any longer. That used to be a really nice line of rods.to bad they did away with most of them.I'll be in to check out a new flippin stick soon.

I have three rods at lamiglas. Two for bad reel seats, one that snapped on a hook set. They have had them for three months. Its been nothing but the run around on why it is taking so long. To say the least, I am not impressed with their warranty service and possibly their quality!

I am feeling the same way. I have heard of poor warranty issues for years.
I to have a bad reel seat that has spun. I just repaired that myself. Another lost the cap on the end of the cork handle.
I love the way they fish and really like that 806.

Don't think I will be buying anymore after this.
