Two different tournament waters and days

Post by Marty »

Was wondering what other thought of fishing a TOC on two different days on two different waters. I think it is good idea – it removes the anglers fishing their home waters.
I think the team that wins will be the best all around fisherman!

My understanding is that this is an insurance nightmare for tournament organizations. Due to deep pocket litigations, organizations could be libel for incidents that take place during the travel of their participants from one venue to another. The question becomes...are organizations currently sponsoring such events fully insured for this type of event? Can tournament organizations, clubs, sponsors, or TDs be held liable if an accident occurs during travel between venues?

Now to answer the question.

Yes...I think it would definitely even the playing field. I like the format.

I think it has the potential to be a good tournament. The real problem I see it that the two lakes would need to be of similar size weights to create competition. Day 1 delta day 2 clear lake. Day 1 oroville day 2 any other spotted bass lake. But Folsom and delta? What a joke. Folsom weights are so small right now that you don't even need to fish it and still win the toc. Just show up day two and stick a 30lb bag on the delta and you win. Where's the 2 day neck and neck competion? So in this case it doesn't seem to even the playing field. It will be won by someone who sticks them good on the delta.

I think it would be awesome. I love the idea. To avoid the offset weights of two different fisheries you could do a point system rather than total weight. As an example, 1st place gets 100 points, 2nd 99 and so on. The highest point score after both days wins. That would force competitors to do well at both bodies of water. This is similar to the el cajon ford open we have in san diego every year.

After ABA stopped doing the Top Six at Havasu for clubs, I started doing our clubs own Top Six with a twist. I planned the whole thing without telling anybody any information. I gave them the weekend we were going and that was it until 1 week prior to the date, in which I told them if we were camping or staying in a hotel. The tournie would be Friday thru Sunday. I didn't tell which lake until the Thursday night before we left. One year it was Havasu and the other year it was Lopez. The year at Lopez, I split the lake into three holes. It was a really good time and something different.

I think it is a different concept and puts a new twist into a TOC. Better than fishing the same lake on the same weekend year after year for the TOC.

I don't know why a tournament organization would be held liable for anything that happens in travel anymore than if you were driving down to the Delta to fish a one day tournament or up the hill to Clear Lake.

And if you catch one of those small weights at Folsom like 9 pounds you will only need 22 pounds on the Delta to beat that 30 pound catch.......Bet the guys that win will catch them at both lakes. Is anyone even catching 30 pound delta sacks right now??????

I'm with Kent on all three issues, there's no more liability to an Organization who holds a two day event on one pond, than a two day event on different ponds. I would bet in a court of law, yer only part of the event and under thier insurance liability, once ya pull into the host Parking lot. I don't ever recall any angler holding a tournament org responsible for any accident or otherwise, that occured while driving to or home from the lake and their event.

Two different lakes is a very nice twist to crowning a TOC winner, it depicts versatility and the nack for locating/catching the winning fish, kinda like BASS' MegaBucks where they fish a different zone each hour, just on a larger scale. I like it and it fits along the lines of the two rookie leagues, to where there is no regionalization of their events, they travel around to ALL the lakes, all year, so why not continue it with the TOC? Makes for an exciting event for the anglers, for they all can have the feeling that, "We're still in it!" and will stick around for the entire event. How many existing team TOCs, do we see a large number of the field leave after day one? This keeps the butts in the seats so ta speak.

The weights here on the River have been very low all year long by past year's comparisons, can someone catcha 30# sack, certainly can, especially with this storm and the reaction bite right now, but it's not likely and the norm for most anglers has been around 8-14 pounds on a good day. For the guys who caught 7-9 pounds at Folsom, they really only need to target that norm to remain in contention and stay ahead of the guy/team that get's the lucky bite and weighs 20-22 pounds, which is what I might think would be the high end weights today. Certainly anything can happen here, as there were a bunch of 4-5 pounders on the roam yesterday! We wish em all the best of luck and a safe return to the ramp!

I would love to fish a circuit that had a toc that was hidden until the week before or even two dif lakes ect. I fish a curcuit that fished clearlake toc every year in october blah blah blah. Clearlake is a great place to fish easy to stay at konocti ect but after so many years it really gets boring imho. Plus there is so many great tournies there all year you really have to pick and choose.
This year I noticed that the circuits have elemimated clearlake as a division all there own. You think either A. people are tired of fishing against the same one lake wonders? B. There turnout is so small because they have to trade money between themselves cause nobody is willing to show up? The reason I say this is because its no different in a toc situation same guys same deal year after year.
