Ultimate Bass this week

Quite alot going on this weekend both close to home and across the country. The B.A.S.S. Federation Nationals are taking place on the Oachita River in Louisiana and 54 anglers are trying to get the last Bassmasters Classic Qualifying spots available for the 2012 Classic on the Red River. Don Edmonds from Sacramento is our California representative and we will check on his success this week.

Already qualified for this second Bassmasters Classic reigning Federation National Champion and Elite Series pro Brandon Palaniuk from Idaho will be checking in live from the Federation Nationals and we will talk about his second year on the Elite Series, the dreaded sophomore slump and the upcoming Bassmasters Classic.

Closer to home 90 teams will be fishing for the title of Future Pro Tour Classic Champions and keys to a Ranger/Evinrude boat. The teams will fish day one on Folsom Lake and travel the hour south to compete day two on the Calfornia Delta with the combined overall weight deciding the winner. We will go to the launch ramp of Folsom and check in with Northern Anglers of the Year Paul Parks and Jim Markham as they get ready to fish day one.

The California Department of Fish and Game are looking into regulation changes for Striped Bass with possibility of increased bag limits and decreased size limits. Is this another battle of the statewide water wars?, are largemouth bass next on the list? just what species are they trying to protect? Political expert and editor of the Fish Sniffer Dan Bacher will join us live to tell us about next week's Fish and Game Commission meeting and what we can do to prevent this from snowballing into other species and getting rid of a specie that brings many thousand dollars to our fishing economy. Don't say they can't do that because they can and will so get educated and protect our fisheries.

Speaking of the Delta coming up this Saturday the 5th is the annual Toys for the Troops Kids tournament out of Russo's Marina and Sunday will be the next stop for the Hook Rats as the Hook Line and Sinker series begins sign ups at Russo's at 5:00am.
