Folsom patterns?

Post by MB916 »

My brother in law is on holiday leave from Louisiana...heading out to Folsom tomorrrow and and hoping to put him on some fish. Planning on looking for bait balls and drop shotting and spooning on top of them. My electronics aren't all that great so if I cant find them I will most likely stick to main body point. I think this sounds like a decent plan. Just looking for a few suggestions that may help us have a lil more success.

I fished Folsom last tuesday and caught a few. I tried everything, but the only thing that worked for me was a shakey head. I used a new ayu, fat robo worm on a 1/4 oz. weedles shakey head. I found fish from 10 to 60 ft. but the only fish I could get to bite were in 30 to 40 ft. If I were to go back, I would focus more on that depth. Also, steep rocky banks seemed to be best. I found working the shakey very, very, slow was key. Folsom is a tough lake and things can be completely different by the time you get out there, but this is what I would be doing. Hope this helps. Good luck!!

You should try camp far west instead. Its fairly close and im willing to bet you'll have much better success. I was out there on saturday and we actually had a better day there then i've ever had on the best day at folsom. Jigs, baby brush hog on a shaky head and senkos. If your set on folsom, I would try dragging jigs or DT hula grugs. You can also try tying on a jig as your drop shot weight.

Have wanted to go to camp far west for a long time...just havn't made it out there. I live 15 minutes from folsom so since we are under time restrants we will be going out there. Have to say I dont really like folsom...it is a pain in the "a" most of the time out there...still havent figured it out. Was thinking of throughing some jigs. Will try that method you mentioned. Thank you

Yes, find bait and u should get fish. Couple things...
Fish have been in about 30 foot of water..if you can find brush around this depth you will get fish. Wacky senko and shaky head...spider jig got action but they were short striking it.. Most fish for me have been coming dead sticking...all brown and green colors... But every fish was fat with bait and were spitting up as bringing up to boat...

Various areas but 30 foot was key depth for 2 weeks for me...

Good luck ~
