Line size poll mono or braid swimbaits

Post by Laserdoc »

2 seperate polls
one for swim bait and one for A-rig. I will post the A-Rig after this one

OK I have had some lost swimbaits and/or A-rig on the first cast while using braid and was told by another angler that maybe I should be using 25 lb mono instead, since it has some stretch. Or maybe it’s the rod and I should call dobyns.

So I wanted to ask all of you on westernbass.com what you use and actually ill try and make it a like a poll. Because I’m also curious what you’re throwing you’re A rig on as well

If you want to tell me why or explain that would be great

Since I broke an a-rig off using 20lbs mono already I won't be doing that again. I just spooled up 65lbs power pro so we'll see how that goes. Can't be losing 40-50 bucks worth of gear every time I get hung up. Hopefully the 65lbs braid is enough to straighten the hooks if I hang it up again. Which seems to happen a lot.

I'm going to start making my own a-rigs though, they are way over priced. Then maybe I won't feel so bad about losing em and won't be so scared to throw it in snaggy areas.

First off you need to let us know what swim bait you are useing as I would use a diffrent line on a 3.5 skinny dipper then I would use on a 12" hud ;)

Tin can...65lb braid should be plenty! I've not lost a Rig yet with 65lb Power pro! I've had to tie the line around the cleat of the boat and pull it free with the trolling motor. straightens hooks just fine!

Good to hear, I don't want to lose any more. They are not cheap.

Also I realized I posted the a-rig stuff in the swimbait poll. Sorry. For most swimbaits, I'm using mono, usually 25lbs big game. For 8" hudds or similar size baits.

lost one each...one was a Hud and one was a Ali-Baby ( the Ali Baby was a floater so i did get it back)
both on braid
one snaped at the reel and the other was the line....
someone told me that somtimes braid gets kinked and that will cause it to loop and break?
