Waypoints from Google

If I want to go to Google earth and mark waypoints I want to fish how do you convert the google wpt to load on a HDS 8
I have gpxto usr utility and GPSbable installed but still having problems converting to HDS

and can i load the wypt from the HDS to goggle and change the number to a name like tree 01 and re load it to the HDS and it will say tree 001

I don't have any personal experience doing this so I asked my guy who has answers to these types of questions. I have pasted his response below. I hope this will help you.

Some data (names/symbols/etc.) is not maintained when using GPSBabel to convert from one type to another. This is because every format type has some unique data that may or may not be replicated in another format.

One option would be to use GPSBabel to convert the native KML format from Google Earth to GPX format if you are having trouble converting to USR from KML. HDS can accept GPX files directly without conversion.

I know that GPSBabel does convert KML to USR because I have done it many times.

Some of the problem, like what the customer is describing naming it "tree" and it showing as "tree001" has something to do with the naming conversion that GPSBabel is doing.

For my actual experience doing what you are wanting to do is that I look at the Google Earth view of lakes I am going to but have never actually been on. Then I go to my Lowrance Chart page and look for the general area, maybe a particular point or something I saw on Google Earth that I wanted to fish, I place a general waypoint on my Lowrance unit on that point then when I go to the lake I go to the waypoint and fish the point up one side and down the other. Then if I find something while fishing that requires a waypoint I can place it right on the proper spot on the point. The general waypoint I placed on the unit while back home is then deleted and I have a usable waypoint placed from personal fishing experience and will be much more valuable in the long run.

Check out a program called easygps and expertgps @expertgps.com. Easygps is a watered down version of the expertgps and is free, but it may still do what you want. I don't use the easygps since I paid for the expert.

Exptergps has an interface with google earth. You can use it to export you boat waypoints to google e, as well as import google e waypoints. It also automaticaly downloads satallite or topo maps as you are using it. I often use it to "pre-fish" a new lake. It's a usefull program.
