Need help with Lowrance color graphs
Are the color graphs worth the extra money?I'm ordering a new boat and was wondering if I should stay with the standard Lowrance graphs or upgrade.

Re: Need help with Lowrance color graphs
In my opinion.... UPGRADE. If you fish nothing but shallow shoreline cover, then I might consider staying with the original stuff but color makes a huge difference with finding structure, cover and fish in deeper water. And once you use GPS you will wonder how you ever fished without it. When is the last time you saw a B/W tv or computer screen. Sure you can watch the football game on a B/W screen and see the final score but the game comes alive with color. I have heard very very few people with color wishing they had a B/W back.

Yes, you will notice a lot better detail. Also, in sunlight, you can see the screen from angles much better. You will not be sorry you spent the extra for color. Bill K

Fun fishing the country, each and every week.
Re: Need help with Lowrance color graphs
I have the LCX-17M and I've compared on the water with an LCX-25C.
I can see how you can more easily determine bottom density and perhaps read a fish better out of a tree or whatever with the color unit but I would disagree in regards to sunlight readability being any better on the color unit vs. the greyscale. I think the more true statement would be to say that the new 7 and 10" Lowrance screens are easier to read than the older smaller screens with lower pixel counts. I had an X-91 before this one and it makes the X-91 look pretty stupid really.
The new graphs are to the point now where you almost start to wonder how much better they can be without going to 3D. When you can watch your bait in real time as you move it and watch fish move in and out of the screen, I don't know what else they can do to improve on that

Re: Need help with Lowrance color graphs
Buy the color graphs and don't look back. You'll love them and if you ever sell the boat you will have an easier time selling it. It can get real expensive REAL fast if you try to upgrade later!
Easy Decision
Unless your budget simply doesn't allow it, get the color units and also get the LowranceNet system.
If you order the Skeeter, the LowranceNet is now factory installed as a standard item.

Re: Need help with Lowrance color graphs
Go to the lowrance site and download the simulators for the LCX-17 and the LCX-25. The two units are identicle in everyway except the 25 is color and more expensive. Play back the sonar files playing with the different color options. I think you will conclude that the color is the way to go, if you can pop for the extra bucks. Of course on the smaller units like the 332c the price difference is a little easier to take.
