Trolling motor
Trolling motor
Trolling motor went out Sat. during a tourney. One of the fuses was blown and I don't know if I have a circuit breaker? Tried replacing batttery, replaced foot pedal switch, replaced fuses, nothing. Anyone know who can diagnose the wiring or the motor itself? Thanks in advance.

Call the trolling motor dr. in So. Cal, he helped me with my issue.
Re: Trolling motor
Thanks guys for your info. I'm going to disconnect the TM plug and connect straight to the battery to see if it's the motor or the wiring before I take it in. If it's the motor, probably be looking for a inexpensive newbie. Eric, Thanks for the kind words. It was awesome for us! We couldn't believe we drew first with that old Champ I have! My partner told me yesterday that it was one of the best days of his life. We were in great company and you guys freakin' whack'ed um with that FAT bass! First things first, gotta fix the TM then we'll go from there. Had an awesome time with the Casitas tourney!
Re: Trolling motor
You should have 40 to 50 amp circuit breakers for each trolling motor battery, start there!
Next check the trolling motor on/off switch for a broken or loose wire.
Rebuilding the armature/brushes isn't too expensive, but you usually have heat issues and lose of power before the brushes burn out and quit. Ckeck the prop for line wrapped around the shaft, that can cause over heating.
Good luck.

Re: Trolling motor
Thanks to all of your guys info. I found and fixed the problem. It was a burnt connection wire from the female plug. This morning I hot wired the TM direct to the battery and the TM worked. So, I assumed it was the wiring somewhere. I started at the plug and figured I replace the wiring just to be safe. Found the burnt connector and asked Cy at Stanton Marine why there were 4 wires to the battery, 2 red and 2 black. He said just run one of each, so I did and Viola! Worked like a charm. He also said to put a circuit breaker at the red near the battery. I really am so proud of myself. I saved myself nearly $500.00. I was going to buy a new TM and the cost for the electrical service, plus I will be back on the water this weekend! WoooHoo!
