Hey guys,
I pitch way more than I flip and wanted to know what you all look for in a flipping/pitching rod? I mainly for the Detla and South Bay lakes and have used my Dobyns 734 as well as my IROD Frog rod. Any advice would be great.
Thanks,
Mike

Your on the right track. I love to pitch with my dobyns 735 flippn depends on the cover and lure. I prefer the the 765 or punch with the 805. Most inportant to me is comfort in my hand and keeping all my rods the same brand.

Im with Fast Cat I like my Dobyns 765C for flippin and use the 735c for jigs - I was going to have a custom rod built until i fished the Dobyns rod, it had everything i wanted in a custom rod without the custom sticker price. Quality of materials, Guide spacing, balance and weight are all factors to consider in a flip stick - For true pitching and flipping something with a fast tip allows me to acuratly place my bait and has the power to drive the hook point and turn that fish. Lots of good rods out there but the Dobyns Rods are the rod for me http://dobynsrods.com/index.php

Re: Flipping/Pitching Rod (What do you look for)?
for me in my flipping/pitching rods, I like rods 7'6-8' long. I like a soft tip that loads fast with instant power. I do not like broom sticks because I feel like I loose the feel of what my bait is doing while fishing.
If I am just flipping/pitching around light structure, no heavy punching then I will have my Dobyns DX784. If I am just fishing and picking apart the nasty of things then I will have my Dobyns DX795. I love these rods. They both are light enough to be fishing all day with.
Another thing I like about these rods are the fact like mentioned above, the soft tip. They are not broomsticks. SO>>>>>If your pitching a spinnerbait far back through some sparse tules or Buzzbait, you do not have to worry about ripping out you bait of your fish's mouth.

Re: Flipping/Pitching Rod (What do you look for)?
Depends on what I'm pitching and flipping. I'm a flipping stick wh@re lol. If I'm pitching a Senko style bait I use my Phenix Recon 744, aswesome rod for that. I have two Daiwa 7'6" LT which I have jigs and creature baits which usally have 1/4 to 3/8 once weights on them. If I'm punching or going threw thicker grass on the Delta I have a Phenix Recon 796 and a Phenix Super Flipper. All these rods are excellent rods for the Delta. You can never have enough flipp'n rods rigged up on the Delta.

Thanks everyone, this all makes sense. I have a punch rod so I'll stick with that one for heavy cover and use my 734 for creature baits, I think I need a 7'6"+ rod for jigs. As I mentioned I'm using my 754 Roumbanis frog rod, but in the summer I will be using this to throw frogs so I'll need to buy an in between punching & my 734 rod.

Mike check out that 765c its a great multipurpose filp rod at 7'6" I flip 3/16 - 1oz weights with ease. Its my go to flip stick for soft plastics that 735c is marketed as a frog rod, but I like the action of it for jigs, a stiffer tip lets me hoss them fish out of the back of the tulese and grass. In the winter time when im not on the Delta the 765c throws the 6" Osprey and a C rig very well.
