Welcome to the new Shimano Product Support Board!

Post by bantam1 »

Hello to all the Western Bass members! I would like to thank Westernbass.com for allowing us to do this on a great website. We are here strictly as product support. I will answer any Shimano related questions that relate to rods, reels and gear. I will also introduce new products on this site as they become available.

I will do my best to answer everyone's questions as quickly as possible. I do have other tasks here with my job so please be patient if I do not respond right away. I will check the boards several times a day during normal business hours.

I do ask that we stay civil about anything on this board. I am here to help the members of this board with any Shimano related questions. I will not bash competitors products on this board. This is a small industry and there is no need to bash anyone.

I will give everyone here a little bit of my background:

I have been with Shimano for a little over 4 years now. I started in the reel repair department, where I worked for about 3 1/2 years. I have a vast technical knowledge of our products. I have worked several trade shows across the country and have probably helped a few of you in my time. I am now the Product Support Specialist for Shimano's Fishing Division. I work very closely with the Customer Service, Product Development and Reel Repair departments. I do fish as well, so do not be shy with your questions. I fish for freshwater bass, inshore saltwater/local islands and our local bays.

This is a great oppurtunity to ask questions about our products. So thanks to Western Bass for allowing us to do this!

Once again thank you and I look forward to helping everyone here!

No the new Citica is not the same as the Curado B series reel. The new Citica, Curado and Cruxis reels share the same body design.

The Citica 100D does share the same body design as the Curado 100B and the new Curado 100D models.

in relation to main gear and pinions which gives it the ability to have a higher ratio, a larger main gear or pinion? can the new 7 to 1 ratio gears be mated with a Chronarch 100 SF?

Unfortunately due to the increased size of the 7:1 gear set it will not fit the Chronarch series reels.

Re: Curado 200DHSV main gear size

Post by bantam1 »

The main gear in the Curado 200DHSV has a much larger diameter. It is very close to the main gear diameter of the CTE300/400.

Here is a picture showing the difference in size between the Curado 200B model (right) and the new Curado 200DHSV (left)

Image

As you can see there is a huge difference in size and the cranking power that the new Curado, Citica and Cruxis provide. All 3 of these reels share body and gearing designs.

This gear will not fit in the 400. The pinion gear and main gear are different sizes and they will not line up correctly within the space set in the frame. If you want a faster reel look at the Curado 300 with a 6.2:1 gear ratio. It also has a large main gear like this (actually even larger) and it was designed for use with heavier lines.

I work for United Airlines and some times I travel to Japan on my days off. Several of my reels have been bought there. I currently have a Shimano ULTEGRA 2500 spinning Reel. I would like an additional spool to use mono line on. What US model reel could a spool be use from, if any?

I believe the Ultegra is similar to our Symetre model. I am not sure if the US version spool will work on your reel. You would be better off sending the spool to us so we could match one up if possible.

Hi Dan, congrats on this great idea. to my knowledge, this is a first.
I don't think any site has a board strictly for shimano reels. I'll be hanging out here alot .LOL. not that i'm partial to shimano baitcasters. To my knowledge, my shop only one in US specializing in shimano baitcasters. Boy, this is just great. I'll know where to come to instead of bothering james or robert or other guys with any problems that might come up. conniek

Welcome!! I sit right next to James so if he bothers you tell me and I'll smack him for you. Robert is my bro and he has no problems helping anyone out.

This is a great thing for Shimano customers or potential customers. Any product related questions can be asked on this board. I will post new products on this board as well that relate to the bass market.

I nave a spool problem on a CI4. I put a 3000 model on a 2500 along with the adjusting knob.

The problem is the spool rotates off center causing uneven drag pressure.

The original 2500 spool and adjusting knob works great.

The 3000 requires a different drag knob.

Next time please post a new topic to ask questions like this.
