What DON"T you like about the Loc R Bar ?
What DON"T you like about the Loc R Bar ?
I have what I am sure is a much more secure design for your boat storage. However, not being a Loc R Bar owner I need your feedback about the pros and cons (mostly the cons) of the Loc R Bar. I am working on having the prototype made as soon as I hear back from my metal dude.
For myself, I never purchased one because I was not to keen on drilling holes in the fiberglass of my boat. The design I have elimates that.
Thanks
GW

I like the Lock-R-Bar. I order it on all my boats from Ranger. They install it and do a great job. The only cons I can think of:
The inner bar can slide all the way through, so if not careful you can put nasty ding in your glass. Once you use it and know this, no issue.
I've heard of guys using winch strap to hook onto the bar and break it lose, therefore getting into your lockers. But, this must be noisy and thieves I'm thinking would rather hit another boat nearby. Less trouble and noise.
Still a great product and if a thief really wants into something, he'll probably get it done.

As bad as i hate to say it. They will probably leave yours alone with a Lock R Bar and hit a buddy that's easier. There are areas that are terrible. In TX last year it was real bad in areas. Those theives have guts because in TX they would probably not be in shape to steal again if caught

Never used Loc R Bar, but I use the security bar set up from Phillip's Fishing Products (Similar). I've had non-secured boats parked near mine burglarized before (bummer). I think my setup does make "tweaker, crack head, parking lot trolls" pick an easier target. Only negative, mine are high "bling" chrome and they do get hot during those summer derbies.

I use one and so far it's worked for me (no break-ins). I think what is more telling is that whenever this topic comes up, I don't see anyone posting and saying they have a lock-r-bar and they have had it broken into. That says a lot.
I'm pretty sure the myth of the winch being used to break the bar loose was debunked. It's been tried and doesn't work.
Of course, if a thief really wants to get into your boat they will do it, but not if it will make too much noise or there are easier pickings near by.

Those of us that have the Phillips bar know how much more solid it is. You basically have to cut the boat to get it out. I would have a Loc R Bar if they didn't exist. Any protection is good, but the Loc R Bar is fairly easy to bend with the right tool. An alarm system with a remote that tells you its going off is another good choice if you leave your boat in parking lots regularly.

I know whos getting the factory defects now...........

I doubt how much more solid it can be. I have a locrbar that came with my champ and it is as solid as could be. I would love to see the work involved to try to bend it and get it off. I looked at the phillips and it definately does not look more solid then my locrbar.toddmc wrote:Those of us that have the Phillips bar know how much more solid it is. As most state here, if someone wants to break into your boat they will. The goal of these types of products is to make it more trouble and risky then it is worth.
