Post by kane-o »

ken, i keep losing my depth reading as soon as the boat goes over 5 mph ? and it happening on both units. one is insight.. as long as im on the trolling motor, its fine. but as soon as i go over 5 mph the reading is gone ?? but the structure depth is working fine ? used my old skimmer ducer 50/200 and was running 28hd's before and never had this problem ? should i change my ducer to the hds skimmer ? thanks for the help !!

If the transducer will give you a reading stationary and at slow speeds, it is fine. If you are loosing the bottom at speed, look at the mounting location. If you are getting air bubbles, turbulence or if the ducer is completely out of the water when you get on plane then you will loose the bottom.

On your HDS 7's, hit menu twice, go to Sonar and hit enter. On the menu that comes up I want you to look at two different items, Fishing Mode and Installation.

Go down to Fishing Mode and hit enter. On the drop down menu highlight Shallow Water and hit enter.

Then go down to Installation and hit enter. In the next box go down to the bottom and highlight Transducer Type and hit enter. Look at the chrome tag on your transducer plugged into the back of your HDS unit and find the model number. Find this model number on the list of available transducers, highlight it and hit enter.

Now save all these changes and your HDS unit should find the bottom quicker and keep the lock.

The puzzling statement in your first post is that the Structure Depth is still working. This is not likely. It may be that you have the Overlay Depth on the Structure Page and your depth is working. If this doesn't solve your issues please call Lowrance Customer Care and they may think of something I haven't. 1-800-324-1356
