Yuba City/Marysville Area Largemouth Fisheries??

Im moving from Sac to Yuba City/Marysville area and in the past had the Delta and Berry at my fingertips for big Florida strains. Now, I'll be closer to Oroville, Bullards, CFW but I'll miss my good ole Largemouth Fisheries! Spots are only fun for so long....

Without driving two hours to Clearlake or back down to the Delta, where is my home lake in Yuba for big largemouth?

And, I dont want to go to Folsom either! LOL!

Years ago, like (50) I fished many of the "Dredger Ponds" around there.

I think they all might be private now.

Check with Gary Dobyns, he can tell you more about them being private.

Damn, don't look a gift horse in the mouth! You have at least 5 decent Lakes at your disposal not to mention a few small Lakes just for Camping and fishing. Get on Google and pull up New Bullard Bar Lake and see all the places in between. You have Lake Oroville, Collins Lake, Lake Englebright and Camp Far West that is closer to Roseville than all the others. Then you do have Clear Lake and the Delta if you choose to make a long drive. Further up the road off of RT. 395 there is a sleeper called Antelope Lake and that is a gem of a lake if you want to travel that far, it is full of Spots, Large and Small Mouth and it is not that hot all the time and out of the way and I mean way out of the way. The main thing is you have Bullards Bar and Oroville that are chuck full of Spots and others; have a ball, I wish I was in your place instead of dreary old Sacramento.

Let me rephrase...lakes that are predominately Largemouth fisheries??

Im well aware of all the great spotted bass fishing in the area...Im just curious about Largemouth fisheries say withing an hour or so of the area......

....and yes, I do know that many of the same lakes overrun with Spots have Largemouths....

Also, I live on west side of Yuba City....but I'm at Clear lake ( Redbud or Keys ) in about 1hr 15 min. If you want some great fishing.....try Sutter Bypass too. Butte Creek is also a LM fishery. Lots of fishing here. Dredger Ponds was my learning ground. Awesome place.

Also there has been an increase of largies at oroville, caught some good ones around the flatter areas in the last few years, I mean dont get me wrong there are a ton of spots but it is possible to tip the odds in your favor for decent largemouth.I live on the delta but I love to fish oroville!Those donkey spots at Bullards are a kick in the pants!

So Gary, how do you get to these dredger ponds? Are these the ones located in Marysville? Or are they on the Yuba side?

Outside of Marysville and private now. I do have buddies with access permission but have not been out there in many years. I'm going to go one day soon , just for old times sake.

We lived out there when I was a kid. Times are different now and people with think it's crazy but at about 4 years old, I fished all over those ponds by myself. I could swim like a fish so the only worry my parents had was i'd find a snake. Times have changed, we'd never think of letting a 4 or 5 year do the things we did as kids. I have no idea how I got on this tangent

ahhh...I might know what ponds you're talking about. Most of that land I heard is owned by a mineral/mining company.

I've been in the dredger ponds within the last few years. Some people went to court to challenge the gating of public property and got it opened up.
Take Hammonton Smartsville Rd, east to Hammonton Rd. Turn north (left) on Hammonton road, directly north of Beale. When you see the U2 spy planes flying over, your in the right place.
Turn right into the dredger tailings before you get to the gravel plant.
