Napa Valley revisited - California Delta on deck

Lake Berryessa can produce "pigs" like this both early and late in the year

SACRAMENTO, Ca. - The midway point for the 2012 Thunder Valley Outdoors/Future Pro Tour has finally arrived, and for the many anglers participating in this 7-event tour, these last venues scheduled before the tour takes its summer break, are most likely a welcome sight.

For the northern region, this Saturday, June 9th, a return to the Napa Valley is on tap as the tour re-visits Lake Berryessa (at Pleasure Cove Marina), where many anglers hope to exact a bit of payback for a season opener that produced BIG limits for some, but for others produced nothing more than shattered “winners circle" dreams, as one of the strongest late-winter storms of the season negated the success many had experienced during their pre-fishing efforts.

But right now, water levels at Lake Berryessa are receding, and with the spawn all but over, reports of HUGE hungry spawned-out females – being caught on swimbaits and topwater offerings, is being reported by anglers pre-fishing for the event.

Justin Nelson and Tony Koregolos, lead the FPT’s prestigious Angler of the Year race, albeit by a narrow margin over central valley anglers Paul Cox and Rudy Linn, who have hopes of being the only FPT competitors to ever hold both a FPT Classic Champion and Angler of the Year crown.

Unfortunately, both of these teams cannot begin to think that this year’s race is only going be a two-team deal, as the 2011 AOY champions – and perennial favorites Jim Markham and Paul Parks have dreams becoming only the second team in FPT history to win back-to-back titles, and graduate from the tour in “legendary” status much like the team of Scott Stevens and Vince Bernal did in 2009 and 2010.

Central Valley heads to the Delta

Sunday, June 10th, the California delta (at Ladds Marina) will be the battleground for the central region, as the tour heads into its “delta swing”, and what will be for many, another top water, big fish shootout!

According to Andy “Cooch” Cuccia, top delta guide and delta guru, the time has never been better for those with double-digit dreams to be fishing the river. “Big Senkos, big spooks, and big jigs, will be the ticket if you want to win on Sunday”, Andy noted. Big females are everywhere – and ready to eat, and if you play the tides right you will be pleasantly surprised at your results”, he added.

Not too late to sign up

And if you’re wondering…it is not too late to sign up for either of these events, as you can call the FPT offices anytime, or visit the FPT website to get registered. Or, if you prefer, you can sign up the morning of each event beginning at 4am, were we will take late registrations.

For those of you that just want to fish this event, or may simply want to try out the tour to see if you like it, limited memberships of just $5 per angler are always available to you. And don’t forget to stay around after the event as we will have a FREE raffle and FREE BBQ for all that participate.

So get ready…the summer break is coming and you may want to get your last “licks” in before those dreaded “dog days of summer” arrive!

See you there!
