Los Banos Reservoir Help info

Post by Bassman53 »

I have a small tournament coming up first weekend next month at Los Banos resevoir. I have never been to that lake and will have no idea where to start. Any pointers on where to go and maybe what tp throw at em. The main thing is where to go, I can figure out what to throw in most cases but since I wont be able to pre fish for this one, I am in desperate need of some advice.
Thanks Larry

It's a small lake with a 5 mph speed limit. You can drop the trolling motor right at the ramp and go left to the dam or go right and fish the trees and tules. There is a grass patch on the left side of the swim beach that will hold some good fish. The back end of the lake is a large flat with scattered grass and wood. Some mats also that will get up frog and senco fish. Past the swim beach there is a long section of steep points that come down, past that there is a small creek that comes in. Drop shot top waters etc. PM me if you want to get more in depth.

My P.M.s are still getting trapped in my Outbox and not sending, if you can send me any additional info you have such as good types of baits to use and where you might start first thing in the morning. It is greatly appreciated. Send replies to chevyman5369@gmail.com
Thanks Larry
After this tourny I still have Tulloch evening/night tourny coming up and I have not even been to that lake.

Larry, This is a great little body of water and can put out some good fish. I have fished this lake a ton of times over the years and this is what I would do this time of year.
First thing in the morning I would run 5mph to the far end of the damn and start throwing a blade; white/chart .5 oz and work your way down the bank until you get to the back of the lake stopping on any piece of wood along the way and throwing a jig; brown/purple 3/8 oz Berzerk Baits Purple Hornet.
Once you get past the big tully bank you will get to some rock slides, just look up the side of he hill and you will see the slide coming down to the water line; so start working the jig out to 30 feet slowly...
On the way back in drop shot the north bank tullys with a three inch oxblood or copper/blue worm or leach on 12lb flouro using a pitch and shake method; shake for four or five seconds and if you dont get bit increase your presentation time up to fifteen or twenty seconds and even use a dead stick approach if needed.
Dont hesitate to throw a five inch red/blk flake sendo weightless out on the parallel to the bank along the break line, let it sink to the bottom on a slake line and fish your way up to the bait, watch your slack line for twitch and set hard.

Good luck,
George

We ended up only catching 2 keepers 3.5 and 2.5, pretty tough little lake. We had to slow WAY down and our 2 fish came on a brown and purple jig far side from the boat ramp. I did catch the biggest blue gill I have ever seen on a white/chart. Spinner bait. Other than that we were 10min or so late for check in so it didn't cost me anything. We got a few hits on the spinner baits but no hook ups besides the blue gill.
I think I will hit that lake again with someone that has fished it before.
thanks again for the info.
