What batteries do you all use and why?
What batteries do you all use and why?
I'm going to be in the "market" for batteries, looking for some input.

I use...
...three Trojan SCS 225's for my trolling motor batteries and an Optima 34M as my cranking battery. This combination is outstanding and I have never had a battery failure. I have a Pro Pak IV on-board battery charger in my boat. It is extremely efficient and will fully charge my batteries, even when the voltage drops below 80 volts (say, like at the docks at KVC or at a motel where numerous boats are plugged in at the same time).
Re: What batteries do you all use and why?
Like Ron said! Except I use all 3 Trojans. Same size all the way around. Never a concern when the livewells are running all day in the Summer. If shipping wasn't a problem I could make you a smokin' deal on 3 Trojans, 2 in my garage and 1 certificate. Coming to Mead soon? Good luck.
It might be lonely at the Top, but it's a bitch, at the Bottom !
Re: I use...
I also use the Trojan 27 series. 2 on trolling motor and 1 for a starter. They have held up as well, or better, than other brands I have use over the years. When I replace them I may go to the Optima, as I hear many really good reports on them, although they are more money.. Bill K

I use Dual Pro AGM batteries made by Charging Systems International. I went to gel cells because I got tired of servicing the water in my batteries (about 2 hours to get them out and back in). The abtteries work awesome and match up to thier chargers without any modifications (not the case with all gel cells).
Trojan SCS225
best wet-celled battery for the money.

I use delco voyager maintence free. 27's for trolling motor and a 24 for cranking. Run the livewell non stop on hot tourn. days and have never had a problem. Price is right at 80 to 90 bucks apiece. I can't say I've ever tried running 2 days without charging, but I always get 3 full years out of the batterys and NEVER needs water.
