Scuttlebutt

Post by afchris »

Little bit of rumors floating around about a rather large lmb caught on Folsom lake.

Might want to peek on the TFF. Thread is tittled "This will make you sick if its true"

Fish looks like a tank in the photo, but the kid holding it also looks like a Hobit soo....

Just thought I'd stir the pot ;-)

Yes the fish was caught at Folsom last week. Yes the fish would be a record...a lake record. Yes the fish was eaten. Def. in the 20lb range, the fish was never officially weighed, so the claim of 26 lbs is false.

Nobody is happy with the guy, but did he act within his legal rights? Absolutely. Either way, it's the largest fish caught in Ca (and maybe even the U.S.) in quite a while. That's for sure.

Wow truly a giant fish, the tail is still red and bruised like it was spawning, the belly looked to be spawned out. Hopefully she was able to do her part and leave those genetics in young fish that will grow up to be big ole trout eaters.

World record fish are meant to be eaten--just ask George Perry.

Is there anymore info on this fish? How it was caught? Witnesses? Time of day? The fish in the pic is a beast. I thought there would be more buzz but not many seem to care or know?? The angler supposedly weighed the fish and ate it. If it did indeed set a new world record, what is the fish worth? I'm sure there is some compensation to be had.

that is a myth.. the guy in Japan that caught that beast was almost homeless 6 months after he caught that fish (at least I remember reading something about it).. there is no magic bank account with a million dollar prize... I believe a person could do well if they caught it on the right gear but I dont think it would happen over night...

Maybe there wouldn't be a bounty for the record fish but there's gotta be swag. Let's say he caught it on 6lb Berkley Nanofil. I'm sure Berkley would love that for an ad campaign. I did read before that the Japanese angler didn't do so well off his prize but he does have a tackle box full of $500 swim baits

There is no bounty on some lake record fish, or world record for that matter.

I just happened to drive into the Hook, as Galen Jensen weighed the Delta record, I think it was 18.65 could be wrong.

Gene called everybody and nobody wanted that fish. Even at ISE they were afraid it might in fact die on display and cause bad publicity for the sport.

I think in the end, Galen cut a small deal promoting Senko, and did an article in Bass West.

That was pretty much it.

There is not anybody waiting in the wings to cut you a big check.

I would ad something more, what if the record was caught by a trotline, a net, or some other means considered not sporting?

How much would that fish be worth?

Or if the fish was caught by a novice off the end of a dock with a french fry? How promotable is that? A child caught a trout lake record doing just that.

If the guy was an outstanding speaker, already had credentials, it would be easier to promote or sell.

That's funny, Andy. It could happen exactly like you say.
I had a friend who took his wife and son to Meade, and went out with a guide fishing for striper, while his wife and son fished off the pier.
She caught a 35lb+ striper off the pier, and he almost cried when he got back from his guide trip.
To his credit, he had it mounted for her, but he hung it over his desk, and he only told me the truth because she was there when I asked. Hahaha

Not many guys know that story about Galen's fish Andy.......I was the guy that made the decision to not put the fish in the Demo Tank. We had just set up the ISE show in Pleasanton when Galen caught that fish and they called. Everyone was excited to get it over at the show and I rained on all their parades!!!! I just knew if with all the transport and changes if that fish stressed out and died while on display we would never hear the end of it!! I didn't want to be the guy that killed the Delta record just so we could get a few more people into the show to see that fish.....

I was glad Galen put that fish back in the Delta and it has been a target that many Delta fishermen have been shooting at for quite some time and no I won't want the next record for the tank either
