Hey guys, i work right next to where the Mendota Canal starts right next to Clifton Forebay on Byron Highway. I always see people there but I have no clue what they are fishing for, assuming stripers and catfish, but I dunno. Anyone happen to know? I would like to hit that place before/after work...

Re: Mendota Canal/Byron highway
I would assume Striper's and catfish. If you fish them Canal's for the Striper's fish just like you would in the Delta or San Luis. Throw Trap's,top water, hairaiser's or whatever. You don't have to chuck out a 10lb weight
to stay in the middle with bait.

Thanks for the help, its very appreciated!
Although, one more question, whats a hairaiser?

Re: Mendota Canal/Byron highway
hair raiser is a striper jig made of animal hair. Buck tail I beilive.
You can find them at most any tackle shop.
They are normaly colored white and have some sort of plastic trailer.
most often a single tail white colored grub. 1 oz is common. Fish it like a swim jig.
They hammer em

Ahhhhh gotcha. Stripers are great, caught tons on hair jigs in Maine a few years ago. Appreciate the info.
