Flippin sticks

Post by edge »

Guys,

I've always thought you guys are the most knowledgeable around. I am shopping for a new flippin/pitichin stick.

I saw your postings on the frog rod and looked of the Powell line but we don't have those up in Canada.

What rods do you favour for flipping pitching.

Thanks again.

...I'm willing to bet that most (if not ALL) of the Powell Rod retailers will ship rods to you. Here is a list of their retailers:

It's assorted. Everything from slop mats to docks, to weed, to undercut banks to trees.....you name it.

If you asked me the same question last year I would have said Phenix, but since I STILL have not got my rods back that I sent in last august to get fixed I would advise you to stay away from them! Very bad customes service! I like the G-Loomis flipping sticks I have now. The only problem is they are very $ and they dont come in 8'ers. I liked the Shimano's and the Powels, but they dont telascope down to fit in my rod locker. So the only 8'er that I have found that will telascope is the St Croix. I like it a lot but it too cost a lot of money. But, I guess you get what you pay for.

What G-Loomis stix are you using now? Up until now, I have been using the GL3 MBR 844 rods.

Hey edge, if money is not to much of a concern i would go with the Loomis GLX I have 2 of them with Shimano 51mg reels. they are so light and sensitive that you will have no problem fishing with them all day. They are backed by one of the best waranties in the industry that everyone else is trying (unsuccessfuly) to match. I swear you can feel rain drops hitting yourline with it. As i said if money is not a problem because you are looking at about $700.00 for the rod and reel.BUT you are bying them both for life. Beat that Powel.

Vince. And no i am not sponsored by Loomis but i wish i was. LOL

Many of the Powell dealers sell off their websites and would be happy to ship you one.

Edge,

We have several Powell sticks in for review right now. One of them is a flipping stick. Though I'm not the editor reviewing this particular rod, I've been hearing good things so far. These rods are a really nice value too.

I believe you can purchase them online at landbigfish.com.

If you go Loomis, I'd recommend against the telescopic models. The ones I've played with in the past were overly tip heavy. You're going to get this pretty much with any flipping sticks due to their length, but for some treason those FSR sticks from Loomis or worse than others. The newer GLX flipping sticks (BCF line) are much better, but as mentioned in other posts, are quite pricey.

Hope that helps.
