They are very nice. Gonna wait to get these instead of the Gen. 2 HDS with buttons. I tried out the touch screen and not only is it easier to use the pictures looks cleaner and clearer. Did they improve the resolution on the new units?

Since the Touch units come in sizes 7, 9 &12 the pixel count has changed with the size of the screen. The 7 Touch is bigger than the 7 Key Pad unit. The 9 Touch will fit into the hole of the 8 Key Pad. The 12 Touch will fit into the 10 Key Pad hole if you have one in your dash for example. This is because the glass to plastic ratio on the Touch units is so good that Lowrance can fit more screen area in a similar size unit.

The Touch units load faster so I'm thinking there is more speed in the processor. The HDS Gen 1 units have great Sonar and Chart displays. The Gen 2 units have a faster processor so they load faster and they have the Structure Map feature on them. The HDS Gen 2 Key Pad units are current models just like the HDS Gen 2 Touch units are. These are both current models just offered in different platforms, Key Pad and Touch. The Touch models are NOT replacing the Key Pad units.

If speed is not as important, the HDS Gen 1 units are pretty cheap out on the Classifieds. They might be something to look at and you won't have to save your pennies for so long.
