What Gas used i use?

Post by VJ »

Should i be putting in 87, 89, 91 when im at the gas station? A friend told me that the octane 87 is better for the motor because it wont burn as hot. Not sure any input is welcome.

The octane rating has no effect on burn rate or temp. They have the same basic BTU/LB. The only difference is the ignitability or ability to resist pre-ignition. If the manufacturers specification is 87 you can run 87. If you want a little extra margin of safety run 89.

Motors are electric, what engine? The higher octane level can be compressed more before it pre ignites, providing more power for engines with higher compression ratios, like high performance outboard engines. If the engine mfr recommends 87, then use 87.

When I pick up my boat the dealer said use 89 octane but did not tell me why! I also use Chevron gas – pick it up from reading on here @ Westernbass.
Had to look up why 89 octane and not 87 or 91.

I would go to your local Yami mechanic/dealer and ask them. At the same time, have them check to make sure your fuel lines are ethanol safe. Otherwise, this ethanol gas will gum up your engine.

use mid grade fuel............89 oct........do not use premium
make sure you also use a carbon cleaner and fuel stabilizer.
