The Central Calif. Bassmaster Elite Series pro Jared Lintner checked in with his Pre Classic Blast Off update from Grand Lake in Tulsa, Okla.
The Tackle Warehouse pro was most pleased with his first day of practice. “I had about 20-lbs one day; but it has been up and down since then,” said Jared. “Each day seems to get tougher. There are a lot of people trying for the primary spots.”
He described the conditions as “miserably cold”. “The low is about 19-degrees and it warms up to about 34 in the day; but that is not until 5 p.m.,” he continued. “I’ve heard guys using a lot of different things to combat the ice on the guides and rods and stuff – like extra virgin olive oil and other stuff. As for myself, I’m sticking to the old standard – blowing on my reel and dunking the rod in the water, making about five casts and then doing it again. It is really important to maintain your body temperature and take the time to put on gloves when you’re moving. You don’t want to do something stupid and get cold in the morning.”
Jared is boat no. 34.
He is finding his fish on a jerkbait on a Loomis 812 rod and said, “I just started using it and it is the best jerkbait rod I’ve ever fished.”
He hopes to rack up a sack in the high teens each day; but said it may take 20 a day to win. “This isn’t the kind of event where you are fishing for a top-12,” he stated. “You’ve got to go for the big one to get the win. I had that 20-lb day in practice; but that’s different. It’s like when you’re pre fishing the Delta for a Pro-Am, there just isn’t any pressure – you’re not under the gun. On tournament day, it’s all different. We’ll see what happens.”
