So I am heading to Lake MCCLure for the first time this Memorial day Weekend .
Where is the best place to camp ? Probably fishing from a pontoon so can't really travel to far once on the water .
Whats the bite like this time of year and where?
Thanks ,
Robb
MCClure first timer?
Re: MCClure first timer?
Most of the campground are OK. If you dont have reservations you may have to pick whats left over. As for fishing any rocky areas or main lake points throwing a darter head /shakey head with a worm will get you bit. Probably some top water going by now early and late.

turkeyman ,
Thanks ,
one more question . The pontoon I would be using is an 9 creek company , the type you sit in the use oars to move around .
Is the traffic on the lake fairly safe , not crazy like the boaters at some of my local lakes . It kinda tough to fish an unknown lake with pontoon 's , but if the boat traffic isn't to bad , it's easy and fun.
booked a campsite at Barrett .
thanks again ,

Re: MCClure first timer?
Boat traffic will be high, and there are a few rude boaters to watch out for. If your camping at Barrets cove there are plenty of fish in the cuts to the right and south of the ramp. Plenty of water to fish and there will be light traffic in the cuts. The house boat cove north of the marina and into piney creek will have fish and is 5 mph zone so you would be safe in there too. If you fish near the house boats throw a sinko under them and just let it fall, there will be fish suspended in the shade over 100 ft of water.
If you are at McClure point goint the creek that is by the marina there, there will be fish on the points and rocky banks.
