150 Merc Black Max Tilt/Trim

Post by thereeldreamer »

Any one know where a good mechanic is to bring my boat to to replace the T/T system (Bay Area)? And Maybe how much it may cost? It's a 1984 on a ProCraft 1750v.

Thanks

The last time I had this done (several years ago) it cost $1500.
They replace the whole system.
Had mine done a Boatmasters.

I would hope you could do it for less then that! I had to to it on a 95 merc and I got a rebuild kit and had C&C put it in for me. It was under 400.

Yea, definitely not wanting to bust out $1500  ... $400 sounds much better. I'll look into it a bit more once I get the money. Just trying to get an idea on what I need to come up with.
Thanks

Lots of shops do a great job fixing our broken boats. I couldn't afford it (2 kids in college). I replaced my 1995 175 Xri trim motor for $94.28. Didn't have to remove the outboard. If it's your trim motor, get your 150 Black Max serial number, go to Mercury's online parts catalog and find your outboard, then go to that model's parts schematic and get your trim motor part number. Then shop online for your motor. Mine was $94.28 on Amazon. I went from a 3 wire system to the newer 2 wire system. All parts were included. Use a Mercury repair manual for technique. It's REALLY not that hard. Took me an hour and a half, with a break for our favorite adult beverage! :D

*Important*
My problem was an old corroded trim motor. I found this out by tapping the motor with a screwdriver handle while pushing the trim switch. It worked intermittently. Got that tip from Bassboatcentral's Mercury forum where a lot of guys and moderators discuss busted trim systems. Long story short, find out what's wrong before replacing parts!

I got a new trim kit and had it replaced at on my 1990 150 Black Max about a year and a half ago.
Cost me like $600 total.
