Need advise on my broke rod.
I have a 7 FT ST Croix Premier rod. The butt of the pole broke about 4 inches from the bottom. If I cut the part that is broken and it is not cracked anymore. Will my rod still be good. Let me know if you can help me out. Thank you

the rod will most likely still be good but it is going to be really off balance. One thing you could do after cutting it off is buy "The Balancer" from Bass Pro Shops. It comes with weights and a rubber end cap-you can probably make it work especially using this method but is it going to be comfortable? Isnt the handle going to be too short? Good luck on your quest!

you should go buy a Quantum PT rod ... they are guaranteed for life. The new rods they have out are awesome you should check into them ... and they are priced right too...

Im not a St.Croix rep but I think they will take replace it for you if not free for cost....Id look into that before I start hacking into that rod.....it will never bethe same rod it was after you start cutting into it and adding weight to balance it backout.

I completely agree with Tom. Recently I broke two of my Lamiglas rods (just about broke down in tears) the dealer I purchased them from sent them back to Lamiglas and they were each repaired for free, I just had to pay $15 for shipping. By far I would check in to having your rod repaired by the original manufacturer.
Re: Need advise on my broke rod.
Breaking 4" off the bottom of a rod is obviously not a manufacturers defect. I would be very supprised to see any manufacturer replace a rod for free with this kind of break. If they do it only goes to show why manufactured rod are getting so expensive. We are paying for the replacements ahead of time.
You can cut it off at the break. Take a piece of another blank that will fit into the butt end. Epoxy it there. Ream, Fit and epoxy cork rings to cover it and file/sand the cork down to the right size. You can use a rubber butt cap or cork/Rubber end piece.

Re: Need advise on my broke rod.
I broke my rods myself, it was clearly my fault.
I had heard Lamiglas (and other high end rod maufacturers) back their products completely no matter how they are broken. I'll admit I was worried about the additional cost I was going to have to pay to get them repaired and was very surprised when they were repaired for free.
My point here is at times you do indeed get what you pay for and it certainly cannot hurt contacting the maufacturer to see what their policy is for fixing a rod -- no matter how it got broken.
Given my recent experience with Lamiglas I won't even think twice about purchasing one of their high end rods in the future.

Re: Need advise on my broke rod.
MY FIRST QUESTION, BEINGS I AM A ROD REPAIRER HERE ALSO, IS HOW DID YOU MANAGED TO BREAK OFF 4" ON THE BUTT SECTION. IF SLAMMED INTO DOOR ETC. YOU COULD HAVE FRACTURED THE ROD BLANK UP AS FAR AS ANOTHER 12" OR SO...........IF NOT, IT IS REPAIABLE FOR AROUND $ 25.00..........IF THE BUTT SECTION IS CORK ??

Justin,
Thanks a lot. I will give them a call tomorrow. I have nothing but St. Croix. I love the rods. I think they are the best out there. I will not switch to another rod. I got rid of all my other rods. I own about 5 St. Croix rods now. Thanks again for your help.
