Recommendations on a prop

Post by dwise »

I'll be getting a Mercury 175hp Pro XS soon, and it will need a prop. What brand of prop, pitch, etc. do you recommend I buy? I have a manual jackplate on the boat. My boat is a 1999 Champion 187.

Mercury tempest plus 25 pitch. You can google BassBoatCentral.com forums for more info, loads of info on that site, especially the the Champion boats forum. Try it you'll love it!

Had a 18'6" champ and was running a 200 hp FI with a 25 pitch trophy. Also had hdly jack plate. Got better holeshot with a trophy compare to a tempest.

go with a merc fury. the dealer your buying from should be able to get you the right pitch for your boat.
Never argue with an idiot; He'll beat you to death with stupidity.
I AM NOT SAYING THERE SHOULD BE CAPITAL PUNISHMENT FOR STUPIDITY,
BUT, WHY DON'T WE JUST TAKE THE SAFETY LABELS OFF OF EVERYTHING
AND LET THE PROBLEM SOLVE ITSELF?"

The 23 pitch Tempest or 23 pitch Trophy are the two choices that will run the best on that set up. The 25 pitch have a tendency to not pull enough RPM on the 175's when set up properly. Give us a call at the shop (530) 275-4939 and we'll help you get it propped right.
