Whats the hottest and coldest temps you have fished in?
Whats the hottest and coldest temps you have fished in?
I have been on the water when it was 110 degrees and dead still as well as I have fished a lake in Ohio when it was 19 degrees and had to cast out past the ice on the bank to open water..
Also been on McClure when it was blowing so hard that I could not run by trolling motor against the wind which had to be doing 40 mph with four foot white caps and then fished a Nor-Cal in 1997 that we had torrential rain, sleet, snow, lightning and a touch of sun shine all in the same tournament day with the lake record for that time being caught during the event.
What are the extreme temps and conditions you guys have fished or are willing to fish in?

Well, I will start this. Day guide trip at Clear Lake many years ago - 110 degrees and zip wind (0). About 4 years ago at Clear Lake - mid-Sept no less - 108 degrees and again, not a breath of wind. Is that possible at Clear Lake - you bet!!! Coldest - not a big deal - about 24 degrees during a night trip at Clear Lake - and the bass were biting!! You mentioned McClure. I fished my first tournament ever in the spring of 1974 there - and it snowed!

The desert lakes Mead, Mojave and Havasu get 120+ in the summer. When I went to school at ASU fish at night when it was 118.....too hot!
Grew up on Big Bear lake and fished while the lake was freezing over and had a terrible time getting back to the dock, cold snap and temps dropped nearly zero. High altitude lake can get cold fast!
Today it's a warm 102 and smart enough to stay home.

Last years FPT at Melones in June was I think 106 or 108. It was damned hot and you would drink water all day and never have to pee. The coldest was in Jan 1991 in Detroit Lakes Minn. I got to go out ice fishing and it was -28. We fished out of a shack placed on the ice with a wood stove inside so it wasn't actually cold while fishing. Walking out to and from was miserable. It was cool watching the fish come to the baits, there was a hole cut through the ice so they could decoy and spear fish, that was 4' by 3'. There would be crappie and perch all around under the ice then they would scatter and a big Northern Pike would swim by.

Used to live in Vegas and fish those lakes..so there were too many hot days to pick one, definitely in the 110's. Now I live in Washington State and fish until the last week of November and start in early March...so too many cold ones to have one stand out...WELL below freezing is all I can say.

No Larry, no one takes you for a wimp!
You fish Clear Lake at night how many times a year? That place can scare the bejesus out of me during the day light hours much less after dark!
You have to have big pair to go out there night after night especially when that wind gets a howling and kick the rollers into high gear. We were staying in Buckingham a few years back and had boats tied up just out side the front door in three feet of water.
Heavy wind and rain blew in that night and when we woke up we had two boats under water, we were able get enough water out of the hulls to float them over to the ramp and trailer them both watching water run out for over thirty minutes!
Even with that; Clear Lake is my favorite place on earth to fish! lol
I would nominate you for extreme AOY for doing what you do!

121 here on the Delta few summers back, and I remember a 120+ day on Mead too once! Coldest day, one January I was in Louiville, KY, took a drive down to Cumberlund Lake, it was 4 degrees when we arrived at the ramp and a balmy 13 when we left at 3:00pm. Them damn smallies there had NEVER seen a Yamamoto Hula grub & One Ton!

Dont know what the hottest was temp wise but I do remember a day on Clear Lake that was brutal. I was up by Rodman, no clouds high sun and no wind. As best I could tell I was in the beginning stages of heat stroke and freaked out. My partners didnt understand what was happening but I had that boat up and running before we had our lines in. I ran to the truck and sat in it with the AC on high for an hour before I got out and put the boat on the trailer. The coldest temp wise had to be while ice fishing in NJ, was minus 40 or something but we had such a good time and smoked the fish. In terms of the coldest Ive ever been while fishing surprisingly it was in Florida on Okeechobee in January. It was maybe 25 degrees but the problem was the wind. To this day I dont understand it, but I can tell you I had 7 layers on and was still freezing. I was told it had something to do with the high humidity. Weird.
Re: Whats the hottest and coldest temps you have fished in?
113 at Berryessa a few years back was the high mark for me. At a 100% event at Oroville one January 10+ years ago, we're waiting in line at Bidwell to weigh in (cold, sunny day), and you could see the black clouds on the horizon to the north. Within minutes we were hit with a massive cold front - pea sized hail until weigh in was done (I was stuck in the boat while my partner went and got the truck). After weighing in, we loaded up and took off. By the time we got to the bottom of the hill, there was snow on the ground in Oroville, and sheep along highway 70 on the way to Marysville had ~ 2 inches of snow on their backs. Even saw some snow on 113 between Dixon and Rio Vista. I'm guessing' low 20's. Caught a bunch of good fish too.

This response is for Steve - don't anyone else read it - LOL!! Fishing in very cold weather with dead calm wind, as is often the case at Clear Lake in the winter, can be tolerable if dressed properly. But, start the engine and boat back to the dock or a new spot. Then you have "wind chill" - which can literally freeze your face! Moving cold air is brutal and that is why we have the term wind chill - in other words - the temperature of "moving" air.
Re: Whats the hottest and coldest temps you have fished in?
i have fished quite a few days straight on falcon when it was over 110. on the flip side, i have fished several day on table rock, when the high for the day never reached 20. the dry heat is nothing compared to a day here when it is 90 and the humidity matches the air temps. same can be said for cold. moisture content of the air makes a huge difference.
