Senko Question
Senko Question
I'm planning on moving up to a 7" senko to target bigger fish. What is the best hook to fish this bait Texas style? The offset round bent 5/0 that I usually throw the smaller ones with is not big enough. Thanks in advance.

Re: Senko Question
5/0 EWG superline works for me.
Re: Senko Question
Go with the EWG 5.0 or stick with the round bend and use an O-ring!

Owner Oversize Worm Hooks - $5.99
DescriptionCustomer Reviews
These offset worm hooks, from Owner America Corporation, feature the renowned Cutting Point exclusive to Owner hooks. They also offer a corrosion resistant black chrome finish and strong, heavy wire, but that's where the similarity ends. This is truly an over sized worm hook in sizes 7/0 and 11/0. They are longer in the shank than other hooks and are made for oversized plastics. 12 and 15-inch snakes and eels, big swimbaits, and other thick plastic lures are no problem for this monster, and they'll help you land more fish.
The secret is that this hook has an ultra-sharp point like other premium hooks, but once the point penetrates, even hard cartilage and bone, the cutting edges actually make the hook push in past the barb easier, meaning less force is required to securely hook your bass. This is accomplished by the fact that the edges of the point up to the barb are actually like knife edges and easily slice into the fish instead of acting like a wedge that requires more force the deeper it penetrates. There is a third cutting edge on the bottom of the point from tip to the barb, which helps the barb enter more easily. We have all had fish in the net and the hook just fell out of the bass' mouth, or worse, set the hook hard and have the bass coming toward you and all of a sudden, slack line and the fish is gone. Chances are the barb didn't get pushed home. Try these exclusive hooks and see if they make a difference in your bite to catch ratio.

Re: Senko Question
I fish the 7" bait a TON. I prefer to use the gamakatsu wide gap finesse wacky hook in 6/0 size. it gets the job done very well. if rigging texas the GAMA EWG 5/0 is money too!

Re: Senko Question
Whatever happened to the big stink about the Owner cutting edge hooks opening too wide a hole in the fish's mouth?
I guess, now that Trokar has a "surgical" hook point, too, it's become hip. Hahaha

Re: Senko Question
I fish 7" Senkos a decent amount. The best hook That I've found is a Gamakatsu MONSTER EWG. They make this in the bigger sizes..5/0...6/0...7/0. The line tie leg is longer...you get a bigger bite with the hook but the longer leg puts it farther back into the Senko. Helps with hook ups. I like a 6/0 in 6" Senko and a 7/0 in 7" Senkos. This is a great hook!!
