Which Rod?

Post by Fishing Ed »

Which rod do you guys use for throwing the deeper diving crankbaits like the DD 22's? I am using a CBR 845 right now and was wondering if this bait is too much for this particular rod.

The 847 would probaly be a better fit for the dd22's.

I dont like the short handle on the Loomis rods for bigger cranks.

Have you checked out the Powell 704 CB? That's what I use and I like it much better than the CBR845 and 847. Aside from the advantage of being lighter in weight, the 704C is way cheaper than any Loomis.

ED,

Check out the St Croix glass rod, the Premeir PC70MM or PC70MHM. The one I use is 7 ft med action (PC70MM). Its about a 100 bucks and its not made by communists, its made by Americans. I have never lost a fish since I started using this rod

Ed, I think you should also look into the Team Daiwa - S rods. For heavier cranks try using TD-S701MHRB ( $99.95 ), these rods recently made it back to the market and everyones enjoying their return.

I would second the St Croix rods, though the Avid rod is a little better for the bigger cranks.

Deep Cranking- I personally think you can be better off on deep cranks with a straight graphite rod. Check out the Kistler Helium LTA 7 ft Medium. It loads nice and has a forgiving enough tip to fish those big trebels on your DD'22's.
