As of this writing we find the lake level at 0.29 Rumsey with a flow of 6.4 cfs going out of Cache Creek Dam. Thus, it looks like Labor Day weekend will find us at 0.00 Rumsey or below.
Wednesday night the WNS anglers reported a much improved bite over the previous week’s especially in numbers. This week it took two 7 lbers to claim the top 2 spots, but a much improved numbers count was even more encouraging. Crankbaits, Swimbaits, Spinnerbaits, and Chatterbaits once again, with a number of frog and punch fish before dark. This week the WNS series goes out of Redbud Park at 5:30 pm.
As for the general fishing report, it pretty much mirrors what the WNS guys were experiencing. A much improved bite. The overnight temperatures are beginning to cool, and the moon was in decline, both helping to contribute to a good morning topwater bite; frogs, spooks and buzzbaits doing the trick. Along with Mr. Kermit, reports also have the flip bite holding up as the most stable of the all-day bites. Beavers, Missile, and Kreature baits rigged with lighter then normal weights or the all-out punch bait techniques being among the favorites.
As for depths, most reports put the fish shallower than normal for this time of year, in and around 2-12 feet. So that brings us back to the improving reaction bite. With the cooler overnight temps, and some slightly cooler days, this bite should continue to improve as the bass begin to form wolf packs and start really getting on the silver sides. Both shallow and deep running cranks are also beginning to produce again, so hopefully this is a sign of things to come. Personally, I already some of my favorites tied on and ready to go; Lucky Craft BDS3, LV500, Megabass Deep 6, and Vision 110.
Now to the water. Water and traffic conditions both continue to be outstanding, and I mean outstanding! Not many boats of any kind out on most days, and almost no algae
build-up of any kind, anywhere.
Launch access is still not a problem at Redbud, Library Park, and Clear Lake Oaks. Still you must use caution while idling out! There are some obstacles outside the various ramps, so go easy and you should be fine.

Dan,
With the water level projected to be at 0.00 Rumsey soon, what if anything have you heard about upcoming tournaments such as the FLW, multiple TOE's, etc? Will they still have them?

Tom,
I have been told "yes", "yes", and "yes". While FLW has pulled a "just in case permit for Stockton", their intent is to stay on Clear Lake. The host ramps are being changed to 3rd and 5th street ramps in Lakeport. for all events. With regards to host hotels no one wants to commit, but I suspect KVC.
That said, the only one I have not been in contact with is the Triton Boat event. The others, Angler Choice, ABA, and FLW are all saying 3rd and 5th street ramps respectively, which should be fine at 0 to -2 Rumsey.
Hope this helps,
Dan

Re: Clear Lake this week 8/16/2014
Good info for all of us in the Valley Dan.
As far as the Triton Owners Tournament scheduled for the weekend of Oct 4-5 we will still use Konocti Vista Casino as the host hotel and check in area. We have also pulled permits for the 5th and 6th street launch ramps and plan a back up weigh area using Library Park.
Clear Lake has supported this event for many years and we are going to do everything in our power to make sure we see another great Triton Owners Tournament on Clear Lake.

county park is still usable but be careful . a boater this week backed his trailer to far and the tires went off the bottom of the ramp he got stuck with the trailer sitting on the frame or springs.

Dave is correct.
I would stick to the Lakeport, Clear Lake Oaks, and Redbud Ramps.
You can launch at KVC but getting out past the bouys is extremely skecthy...like six inches sketchy.
Be safe, Dan
