Lake McClure status?

Post by Grape Ape »

Has anyone been to or has heard of McClures status? Last I heard was the lake was below 12% and all the ramps are closed except Barrett Cove North (Marina). The last time I was there a month or so ago, that ramp was under repair and it didn't look like there was a "turnaround" near the end. It looked like you'd have to backup a very log way on a narrow winding ramp and then park all the way at the top. I'm also hearing rumors that the lake is now all 5 mph and others that it was closed to boat traffic. Can't get anything out of their website and nobody answers their phones and/or responds to emails. Any info would be appreciated.

Well, I just heard that McClure maybe closed, as of Sept 27th, to most boats. The only boats that maybe able to launch are small aluminum boats. This is not good.

Well they must of just posted this on their website:

The Barrett Cove and McClure Point marinas are currently closed due to the drought.

Well I finally was able to get through to a Ranger up there on the phone. He told me Barrett's Cove North ramp was still open for approximately two more weeks. Then all the ramps will be closed. So I hooked up my boat and went up there. The ramp goes way down, go figure, and is single lane. It would of been interesting if someone was coming up, but I think there was room. There is a turn around near the bottom, but once again it's tight. Backing into the water my trailer tires went into mud. Not sure if it was just mud on top of the asphalt or not, I didn't sink, but flung mud everywhere on the way out.

I strongly suggest you go elsewhere, unless you want to go take some historical pics.
