Rod length for river to sea.

Post by Ceaser »

In the rules i didnt see anything designating a maximum rod length. The 8' thing is a bummer for guys who throw alot of big baits, the 8'3 and 8'6 rods I have also have handles that are 6" longer than normal rods. So, the 8' thing that got made because of tule dippin really doesnt have any relavence to a rod like that, same length in front of the reel seat as a 8' conventional rod. River to sea offer big baits and large swimbaits, I would hope that they would take into account that guys would like to use their current equipment for the tourney and not have to buy a new rod to fish. Not really wanting to start a debate, just saying my piece and wondering what rods I need to string up for this weekend.

I'm not fishing the event, but if it does not say in the rules that you can't use a rod over 8' then I wouldn't think twice about it. Seems Like a rule that needs to go away and has in many tourneys. Its a non issue, and does not give any unfair advantage in my opinion.

Good luck!

What big R2S baits are you going to throw? I can't think of what big baits they even make other then the 200 S-waver.

they have big ploppers, big sub surface glides, Rover 230, umbrella rig with rig walkers, but ive moved to longer rods on alot of stuff, even conventional. 8'3 is a great length with a 16-18" handle for anything from frogs to chatterbaits and jigs. I just prefer the handle to be under my armpit... so when i set frog hooks or other baits that need big hooksets i dont get a bruised and scraped up rib cage. It took a little bit but i hate the shorter handles now. I think thats why alot of rods are trying to go so light, wrists can get tired from that. Once that handle is tucked for me it much more comfortable and i am alot less fatigued by the end of the day.. after a fw days in a row, the differences are amazing, zero wrist strain
