HDS unit won't boot up.

HDS unit won't boot up.
I have a HDS-7 that starts to boot up and the scroll bar will run, then stop and freezes after 30 seconds. It stays locked on the blue screen with Lowrance across the screen. It won't change to the next screen. I've tried a soft and hard reset. Nothing happens. Anyone have any advice or been thru the same problem.

I have read this is a common problem with that Series. You will probably get your best answer directly through Lowrance. You just made my decision for me. I have been looking hard at the Elite 7 and doing a lot of research. Saw too many similar complaints and yours broke the camels back. I'll be looking elsewhere for a unit. Thanks.

Have you checked that you are getting good power to the unit? Should be over 13 volts for best performance. Is there any kind of micro card in the unit? If so, try removing the card. If that isn't the case, you would need to get help from Lowrance. Hopefully it is still under warranty. I have no information that this is a common problem with any Lowrance series. In fact, since the introduction of the Gen 2 units, the complaints I have read about have been practically non-existent. Is this a Gen 1, Gen 2, or Touch unit? But purchase whatever you have faith in. HB makes good units too.

Go to Bass Pro Shops customer reviews of this unit. Many, many, similar complaints. I would love to be convinced otherwise, but right now I am very leary.

The HDS units and the Elite units are completely different units. If your HDS unit doesn't respond, call customer service and get an RA number to return the unit for service. This could be a software issue in this unit itself. I have had a number of these units with no problem at all, just like thousands of other happy fishermen.

I had a similar issue that was caused by the automatic system software upgrade on my SD card. I erased the start up file on the SD card and all was well. PS. dont delete your navionics maps!! A soft reset should fix most issues. They are amazing units, good luck.
