I sent in problem with my HDS 8 and Ken gave me and answer but it wasn't what the problem is. When I run the trolling motor the screen all goes black an cannot see anything. Ken though it was spiking but that is not what is happening.

Sounds like a grounding problem to me. Check all your grounds.

If you have a Fortrex trolling motor, the 1 to 2 inch black spikes are normally the electric trolling motor not having a good ground and the receiver in the ducer picking up that sound and not knowing what to do with it, the head unit makes the black spikes or bars I was talking about in my other post. With the screen going completely black, it could still be interference but I've not seen that much black out before. You might check the current software on the internet and in your unit to see if there is a more recent update that could correct any glitch that could be doing this. Otherwise, you can call Lowrance customer care to see if they have heard about this issue and have a fix. That number is 1-800-324-1356.
