Best Prop for 07 150 Opti / Triton 186?

Post by Bigfish247 »

The current prop I have is a 3 blade 21p Mercury Mirage II.
Boat has plenty of lift and drives/handles great but my top speed is 58mph at 6200rpm
Just curious if that sounds right for this boat and motor set up?
Thanks for any feedback I greatly appreciate it!

There is a Pro-HiJacker jack plate on it but I'm not sure how high/low it sits.

Sounds like you need more prop. A 23 or 24 pitch is probably what you want. A 24 fury would be my GUESS, but you need to talk to someone with the same boat/motor combo.

There is a website called bass boat central(BBC) that has a board specifically for triton boats. Ask this same question on there and you will get the help you need.

Good luck!

23 pitch Mercury Tempest would be the best all around prop for that setup.

Call Phil at Phils Props in Redding He can give you the best info for your set-up. I would guess adjusting the Jack plate up or down also. 21 should be good, you may have it to high or low.

6200 rpm sound like over-rev range. If I remember correctly the 150 is rated for WOT at 5500-6000. My ranger is similar in size and weight and a 23p tempest was perfect when I ran a 150 opti and pushed me in the low 60's. I run a 24p Fury now with a 175 pro xs and top out at 5750-5800 rpm which is ideal and run mid 60's. There's a pretty big rpm difference (about 400-450) between a 23 tempest and 24 fury because even though it's only one pitch size the blades are much longer on the fury

Places like Boatmasters in Livermore have demo props you can test out

With your jack plate set at the correct height, a 24 Tempest or Trophy should run well on your boat. you will get better lift out of the Tempest. You MAY even be able to squeeze a 25 depending on what elevations you are running at. A 21 mirage II is most definitely not the right prop for your boat. Give us a call (530) 275-4939 and we'll see if we can get you set-up.

Edit: Was thinking Trophy and typed Fury

You need to measure your prop to pad distance. With the pad and prop shaft/cav plate level measure the prop-shaft to the ground then the pad to the ground and subtract.

I doubt you will be able to turn a 24 Fury or 25 Tempest which are about equal. The Fury will have more stern lift then the Temp due to its longer more flared hub.

My guess is a 23P Tempest at about 3" below pad. If you have to over trim a lot to get back to 6Krpm I would raise the motor in 1/4" increments.

I ran a 23P tempest and had my JP set at 2 3/4" on my 186. It ran about 62-63 GPS. a 24 fury would be a lot of prop for a 150.
