Portable transducer
I just bought the Helix 5 gps si . I am going to Canada on a fly-in in June and would like to take this with me. I will be fishing out of a 16 ft Lund. I have heard of inconviences and problems staying attached with the suction cup portable mount kit. It was recommended to me to make a metal strip and mount the transducer to that then take c clamps and mount the piece of metal to the top of the rail on the transom. Do you guys think this will work and do you have any other ideas? I have the portable bag with the battery and charger they sell to go along with it. Any suggestions or comments. Thanks in advance
Re: Portable transducer
I've done it before with a piece of wood 1"x2" and clamped it onto an aluminum boats transom with no issues

You may want to take a look at the Vexlar sonar phone unit. I piloted the original version and it works great and is low key to travel with. http://www.navionics.com/en/sonarphone

I might have found the answer to what I'm looking for. Its pricey but it looks very slick and efficient for the portable needs. The company is called fish finder mounts. They make mounts for the raft, kayak, canoe, and the smaller boats. The one I'm looking at is the 10a it has a 15mm magnet to mount the transducer to the boat wherever. It has a clamp to mount the unit to the side of the boat. The battery is enclosed with the unit. This will also allow me to go with a bigger finder if I like. Check it out.

Re: Portable transducer
Do search there are portable transducer brackets for purchase or you can build your own and clamp to the transom of boats too.
